Bayda describes the impact of joining the pastry workshop at the vocational training centre:
"I never knew that the cooking and pastry workshop would change my life! It was healing for me; a place where I learned how to face life and come back stronger."

Bayda didn’t just learn how to cook, she also became more confident and ambitious through the life skills sessions she attended during the workshop.

"The training helped me overcome the depression I experienced after my husband’s death. I now have a clear goal - to work and support my children."

Today, Bayda is working towards her dream of opening her own restaurant and building a better future for herself and her children.

Like Bayda, 2,357 trainees have graduated from our vocational training programmes in Iraq - many of whom have gone on to join the workforce and achieve self-sufficiency.

At just 9 years old, Abdul Rauf has already faced more than most children ever should. He lost his father at a young age - and not long after, was diagnosed with kidney failure.

Yet despite everything, he remains full of life.

He loves football, drawing, and spending time with his brothers. He told our team he dreams of becoming an engineer - or even a firefighter, saving lives just like the heroes he admires.

Behind his smile is a mother doing everything she can to raise five children alone, often struggling to meet their most basic needs.

Today, through ongoing support, Abdul Rauf and his family receive the care they need - helping him stay in school, access vital care, and continue moving forward.

But many children are still waiting for that same support. You can sponsor a child in need today by visiting www.alayn.co.uk
