A pharmacist has been jailed for six years for his role in a £1.3m NHS prescription fraud.

Jignesh Patel, 46, of 11 Princes Park Manor, Royal Drive, London N11, was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court today (16 October 2026).

Two men have been found guilty in connection with a £1.3 million loss to the NHS.

Following a three week trial at Southwark Crown Court, Jignesh Patel and Rahil Patel were convicted on Tuesday 6 October of offences involving fraud by false representation and converting criminal property.

The NHS Counter Fraud Authority investigation identified:

• 1,639 false prescriptions relating to 440 patients.
• High cost medicines obtained through Wise Pharmacy using false prescriptions.
• £779,405 worth of Noxafil and Sprycel sold through Actipharm to pharmaceutical wholesalers in Europe.

Our investigators followed the evidence across the UK and Europe, working with partners to uncover the scheme and bring those responsible to justice.

Every pound stolen from the NHS is money that cannot be spent on frontline services and patient care.

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday 16 October 2026, when a timetable for Proceeds of Crime Act confiscation proceedings will also be set.

Fariba Shameli, who is living in Sweden, did not attend court for her sentencing after fraudulently claiming more than £92,000 from the NHS for work that she never carried out.

Shameli, 55, formerly of Stable Lane, Worthing, was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment at Lewes Crown Court today (Monday 21 September 2026). She had previously been found guilty of four counts of fraud by abuse of position.

If she enters the United Kingdom, she will be arrested and serve a third of her sentence.
