More than breaking barriers, it’s about changing the systems behind them.

DCM delivered opening remarks at IMOGENder Network’s panel, “What I Wish I Knew: Women Navigating a Career in Maritime,” at IMO Headquarters in London (22/10).

The DCM brought an Indonesian perspective by recalling how generations have grown up singing “Nenek Moyangku Seorang Pelaut”—“My Ancestors Were Seafarers.” With *nenek* meaning “grandmother,” she reminded us that women have always belonged in the maritime story. ⛵🌊⚓

Building on these reflections, the discussion highlighted that advancing gender equality across the maritime sector requires tackling structural barriers, expanding women’s access to leadership and career opportunities, and creating safer, more inclusive workplaces for women seafarers.

Let’s keep opening doors for women to shape the future of maritime. 🚢👩👩🏻‍🦱🧕🏾

Good conversations, closer connections 🇮🇩🤝🇬🇧

Ambassador welcomed Baroness Winterton, the UK’s Minister for the Indo-Pacific, and the FCDO Asia Pacific team to the Embassy on 22 October 2026, during the FCDO’s Asia Pacific Away Day.

Their discussion focused on advancing the Indonesia–UK New Strategic Partnership, translating shared commitments into concrete cooperation in areas including trade and education, and strengthening ASEAN–UK relations while upholding ASEAN centrality.

Ambassador Desra also conveyed Indonesia’s request for the UK’s support for Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin’s candidature as WHO Director-General for 2027–2032. His vision, Healthy Long Lives for All, aims to strengthen national health systems, build regional health resilience, and advance a more effective, accountable, and financially sustainable WHO. 🌐

Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global priorities, including the UK’s upcoming G20 Presidency in 2027 and opportunities to advance effective multilateralism and inclusive global governance.

Thank you to our FCDO colleagues for visiting the Embassy. We look forward to continuing our close and constructive engagement in strengthening the Indonesia–UK partnership and advancing our shared priorities.

A pivotal week in London shaping the future of global critical mineral supply chains⚠️

As London hosts LME Week 2026, .indonesia.official, alongside Co-Chair APPGI Rushanara Ali MP , , , , and the Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), convened the 2nd edition of the Indonesia Critical Minerals Forum.

The forum focused on securing sustainable critical mineral supplies from Indonesia whilst navigating the complexities of an increasingly fragmented world.

Ambassador delivered timely opening remarks alongside key Indonesian and UK industry leaders.

The message was clear: in an era of rapid technological progress, addressing climate and supply chain challenges requires a shift from resource competition towards meaningful cooperation that creates shared value.

Indonesia and the UK have a strong foundation as trusted partners. By working together to create real, sustainable value from our resources, at home and abroad, we can turn today’s minerals into tomorrow’s shared prosperity. 🇮🇩🇬🇧

From Sulawesi to London: A Story Worth Sailing

Meet Tristan Rutherford, travel journalist for The Times and The Daily Telegraph, who visited to share his latest passion project.

After more than 30 years of exploring Indonesia, Tristan returned to the archipelago to research Lamima: An Indonesian Living Heritage — a stunning tribute to Lamima, the world’s largest traditional phinisi, and Indonesia’s rich, living maritime heritage.

From the master boatbuilders of Sulawesi to adventures across 17,000 islands, Indonesia’s maritime story continues to evolve. As Tristan puts it, “the adventure never really stops.”

🇮🇩✨ Passport to Nusantara: A Culinary Journey Through Indonesia

An evening of flavours, friendship, and discovery at Toba Restaurant, London.

Five Indonesian chefs from London , Amsterdam , Paris , Liège , and Vienna came together for “Five Elements, Five Chefs, One Kitchen”. Taking guests on a culinary journey through Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and Spice. 🌶️🔥🌊

Beyond the flavours, the evening celebrated the connections and partnerships that bring Indonesia and the UK closer together.

With every course came a new stamp in our Passport to Nusantara, and hopefully, a little inspiration for the next journey to Indonesia. ✈️🌏

Ambassador Desra Percaya, PhD and fellow ASEAN Heads of Mission met with Lord Leong CBE, UK Minister for Small Business and Enterprise, to discuss ways of strengthening ASEAN–UK business ties (16/10). 🇮🇩🇬🇧

The conversation focused on practical steps to connect more UK companies—particularly SMEs—with opportunities across ASEAN, through targeted engagements designed to build concrete business partnerships.
