Today is . Meningitis is an infection of the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord.

Ellie was diagnosed with stage four cancer at 14, suffering from a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer, but has recently newly qualified as a doctor!

As a teen, she underwent 18 months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which saved her life but forced her into menopause at just 15.

Ellie has since spoken openly about experiencing hot flushes, brain fog and infertility as a teenager, saying she felt “like an 18-year-old trapped inside an 80-year-old’s body.”

This experience inspired her to become a doctor and Ellie went on to study medicine at Keele University and has now graduated with distinction.

She’ll soon begin work as a resident doctor at Royal Stoke University Hospital and hopes to specialise in endocrinology and hormone health, using her own experience to support people facing similar challenges.

It’s an incredible full-circle moment ❤️

Starting this month, some newborn babies in England will begin to be screened for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) as part of the newborn blood spot test.

Finding SMA early means affected babies can start treatment before symptoms develop, which can significantly improve outcomes.

Screening is being introduced gradually across England, so not every baby will be screened for SMA straight away.
