We recently welcomed Sue Biggs CBE, who was the longest serving Director General of RHS - Royal Horticultural Society, to St James's Park, to plant her namesake Magnolia โSue Biggsโ by the lake ๐ณ
The variety was named for her by the RHS to recognise her contributions to the horticultural industry when she retired. It is a very early flowered hybrid with unapologetically large, pink flowers! ๐บ
Sue planted the tree with Park Manager, Mark. We hope it will bring all park visitors much pleasure in late winter when it blooms ๐

๐ข As we welcome everyone to St James's Park to enjoy the warmer weather this weekend, we want to offer a reminder around the increased risk of wildfires due to these higher temperatures and dry ground.
โ Please remember that BBQs are not permitted in the park, and make sure that cigarette ends are completely out and properly disposed of.
๐ฅ Fires in the park put people in danger, cause devastating harm to wildlife, damage to landscapes and habitats, and a strain on the emergency services.
๐ If you do spot a fire in the park then use what3words to give an exact location to London Fire Brigade.
๐ฎ Visitors are also reminded to take litter home or place it in bins as glass bottles increase the risk of a fire.
๐ Finally, although you may be looking for ways to keep cool, swimming in any lake or waterbody within the Royal Parks is forbidden apart from in the Serpentine Lido at designated times.
๐ Your cooperation helps us keep the park safe for all to enjoy.

St James's Park really is an area of tranquillity right in the heart of London ๐
There's some beautiful displays of cow parsley bordering the lake at the moment. Its delicate flowers are an amazing source of pollen for hoverflies and bees ๐
