St James's Park is one of London's eight Royal Parks, cared for by The Royal Parks charity. St James's Park is at the heart of ceremonial London.

It is the setting for spectacular pageants, like Trooping the Colour, and is surrounded by some of the country's most famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, St James's Palace and Westminster. But there is also another side to St James's Park; it is a tranquil place. Simply relax in a deckchair and watch the world go by. The flower beds and shrubberies are enjoyed by visitors

We recently welcomed Sue Biggs CBE, who was the longest serving Director General of RHS - Royal Horticultural Society, to St James's Park, to plant her namesake Magnolia โ€˜Sue Biggsโ€™ by the lake ๐ŸŒณ

The variety was named for her by the RHS to recognise her contributions to the horticultural industry when she retired. It is a very early flowered hybrid with unapologetically large, pink flowers! ๐ŸŒบ

Sue planted the tree with Park Manager, Mark. We hope it will bring all park visitors much pleasure in late winter when it blooms ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ“ข As we welcome everyone to St James's Park to enjoy the warmer weather this weekend, we want to offer a reminder around the increased risk of wildfires due to these higher temperatures and dry ground.

โŒ Please remember that BBQs are not permitted in the park, and make sure that cigarette ends are completely out and properly disposed of.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fires in the park put people in danger, cause devastating harm to wildlife, damage to landscapes and habitats, and a strain on the emergency services.

๐Ÿš’ If you do spot a fire in the park then use what3words to give an exact location to London Fire Brigade.

๐Ÿšฎ Visitors are also reminded to take litter home or place it in bins as glass bottles increase the risk of a fire.

๐ŸŠ Finally, although you may be looking for ways to keep cool, swimming in any lake or waterbody within the Royal Parks is forbidden apart from in the Serpentine Lido at designated times.

๐Ÿ™Œ Your cooperation helps us keep the park safe for all to enjoy.

St James's Park really is an area of tranquillity right in the heart of London ๐Ÿ˜

There's some beautiful displays of cow parsley bordering the lake at the moment. Its delicate flowers are an amazing source of pollen for hoverflies and bees ๐Ÿ’š
