Bangladesh Awami League's Protest and Strong Condemnation Against the Vile and Unjust Ban on a Historic Organization Tied to the Nation's Independence
--
Through a notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs of the unconstitutional and illegal so-called interim government, the Bangladesh Chhatra League, an organization that played a pioneering role in the liberation struggle and the independence war of Bangladesh, and was founded by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, has been banned. Bangladesh Awami League strongly condemns and protests this heinous and disgraceful incident.

Bangladesh Awami League believes that banning an organization that led the Bengali liberation struggle and the war of independence, and whose name is intertwined with the very existence of the state of Bangladesh, by an unconstitutional and illegal interim government is a tragic and unfortunate event for the nation—a cruel irony. It is a brutal revenge by the defeated forces of 1971 against the liberation struggle and the war of independence.

The Father of the Nation of the Bengali people and the founder of the state of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, used several key elements to create the state of Bangladesh, and the Chhatra League was one of them. After independence, the Father of the Nation said, "The history of Chhatra League is the history of the Bengali people."

On January 4, 1948, Bangabandhu created this organization to fight for the rights of the Bengali people, self-determination, and ultimately to contribute as soldiers of the liberation struggle. No other student organization in the world has had the unique fortune of being so directly associated with the birth of a nation. Thousands of Chhatra League leaders and activists became martyrs in the liberation struggle and the war of independence. After the assassination of the Father of the Nation along with his family in independent Bangladesh, the Chhatra League led the democratic struggle of the nation. Declaring such an institution as a "terrorist" organization and banning it by an unconstitutional and illegal interim government is a severe blow to the spirit of the liberation struggle and the independence war.

On July 15, the so-called interim government, which has granted impunity to the killers responsible for what can be classified as genocide according to international law, killing countless people, including students, police, and Awami League leaders across the country, has now banned the Bangladesh Chhatra League, labeling it a terrorist organization, after its leaders and activists were subjected to murder and torture. This unconstitutional and illegal group has no legal or moral authority to make such a decision. Their decision is unlawful.

This same group attacked police stations across the country, killing thousands of police officers, including pregnant women. They have persecuted millions of Awami League leaders, activists, and supporters, as well as Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian brothers and sisters.

The conscience of the nation—teachers—have been brutally persecuted. The country’s economy has been destroyed. People are dying of hunger. Millions of people in the country are yearning for liberation from the rule of this illegal tyrannical force. Every moment is painful for them.

Bangladesh Awami League believes that the Chhatra League has led the democratic and revolutionary student movements against all unconstitutional and undemocratic forces in this country. Therefore, this unconstitutional and illegal group views the Chhatra League as a threat to their tyrannical rule.

We strongly condemn and protest this heinous and despicable act of banning a historic organization associated with the country's independence by an anti-independence group that has unlawfully seized power by violating the sacred constitution, written in the blood of 3 million martyrs.

Joy Bangla.
Joy Bangabandhu.
Long live Bangladesh.
