Lest We Forget. 🌹

This week, Fusiliers from X Company travelled to France to fulfil one of the most solemn duties a soldier can undertake — laying fallen comrades to rest, more than a century after they made the ultimate sacrifice.

Supporting the MOD War Detectives, our soldiers provided the bearer parties for Privates George McIntosh, of the Bedfordshire Regiment, and Percy Tolliday, of the Middlesex Regiment, alongside three Unknown British Soldiers, ensuring each received the dignity and honour they deserved.

The visit also provided an opportunity for a short battlefield tour, visiting the Thiepval Monument, and to retrace the footsteps of the Northumberland Fusiliers at the Somme, reflecting on the sacrifice of those who came before us.

Different generations. The same sense of duty. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

PREPARATION. PRIDE. BROTHERHOOD.

Not every moment on exercise is spent in the thick of the action.

Time between tasks is just as important. From maintaining weapons and equipment to preparing kit for the next mission, good administration ensures our Fusiliers are ready for whatever comes next.

But these quieter moments are about more than preparation. They’re a chance to catch up, share a laugh and strengthen the bonds forged through shared hardship, trust and friendship.

Because being ready for battle isn’t just about the kit you carry, but those who stand beside you. The same care and attention we give our equipment, we give to each other.

Look after your kit. Look after your mates. Neither lets you down when it matters most.

SETTING THE STANDARD

Congratulations to the Fusiliers who have successfully completed the Queen’s Division Training Team (QDTT) PNCO Cadre, demonstrating the grit, determination and leadership required of our future junior commanders.

A special mention to Fus Marks, who finished in the top three, achieving an HC with Distinction. An outstanding performance and thoroughly deserved recognition.

NO ONE LEFT BEHIND.

Fusiliers have been putting their battlefield casualty drills and casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) procedures to the test during recent training incorporating our new Boxer Armoured Fighting Vehicles.

From delivering life-saving treatment under pressure to evacuating wounded comrades to safety, our soldiers are trained to act quickly and decisively when it matters most.

Because in the Fusiliers, we look after our own. No matter the circumstances, no one gets left behind.

Lance Corporal Callum Holmes, First Fusiliers 🪖

As a member of the anti-tank platoon, Lance Corporal Holmes is trained to find, engage and destroy enemy armoured vehicles and tanks.

Our anti-tank platoons are armed with advanced guided missiles such as Javelin and the New Light Anti-armour Weapon (NLAW) to take out enemy vehicles from a distance.

Operation HERRICK was the name given to British military operations in Afghanistan from 2002 until the end of UK combat operations in 2014. British forces served primarily as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), with operations increasingly focused on counter-insurgency and stabilisation in Helmand Province.

The Fusiliers first deployed to Afghanistan in 2006–7, when elements of the 2nd Battalion served across Helmand, including at Nowzad, Sangin, Kajaki and Musa Qala.

From March to October 2009, 2 FUSILIERS deployed as a battalion on Op HERRICK 10, operating principally in Sangin and Musa Qala during one of the most dangerous periods of the campaign. Tragically, seven Fusiliers from A Company were killed during the tour.

From May to October 2013, 1 FUSILIERS deployed on Op HERRICK 18, primarily from MOB PRICE, conducting stabilisation and strike operations alongside coalition and Afghan forces.

Throughout the campaign, many other Fusilier officers and soldiers also deployed as individual attachments to units and headquarters across Afghanistan.

Today, we remember all those who served, and especially the Fusiliers who did not return. We will remember them.

🏃 TRAIL HALF MARATHON

On Saturday 5 September, four 1FUSILIERS runners took on the And-Over Military Cup Trail Half Marathon, securing an impressive 4th place team finish.

🔴 Sgt Smith — 22nd | 1:46 | 1st Female 🥇
🔴 Fus Gardiner — 27th | 1:48

A strong team performance across a demanding trail course, with Sgt Smith taking the top spot in the female category.

🥾 100KM. 18 HOURS. ONE TEAM.

At 0730 on Saturday 12 September, four members of 1FUSILIERS crossed the start line of Trailwalker 2026 — taking on 100km in support of the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

18 hours, 32 minutes and 15 seconds later, they crossed the finish line, placing 125th out of 349 teams.
