Cities of London & Westminster Conservative Association
The Passing of Former Association President Patrick Evershed CBE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick Evershed CBE, former President of the Cities of London and Westminster Conservative Association.
Patrick’s association with our Party stretched over more than seven decades of active involvement and commitment. He first delivered leaflets in 1945 and went on to serve in numerous roles, including chairman of the Young Conservatives in Yardley, Birmingham, where he built a thriving branch and helped strengthen the Conservative vote in a marginal seat. Wherever he served as a volunteer, his energy and dedication made a significant difference to the success of our Party.

In Westminster, Patrick played a pivotal role in securing and consolidating Conservative control on the council. Following the near loss of Westminster in 1986, he focused his efforts on the Churchill Ward, helping to turn a safe Labour ward into a Conservative gain and delivering a major swing in our favour. As Chairman and later President of CLWCA, he oversaw a period of remarkable organisational and electoral success, recruiting new members each year and enabling the Association to grow its campaigning and fundraising capacity.

Patrick will be especially remembered for his outstanding contribution to our fundraising. For over two decades, he led and championed the Two Cities Lunch, transforming it into one of the most successful and anticipated events in our calendar and a major source of support for the Party both locally and nationally. Under his stewardship, the surplus from the Lunch tripled, and CLWCA became one of the strongest financial contributors to the Party.

Beyond politics, Patrick enjoyed a distinguished career in the City, spending nearly 50 years in fund management and consistently delivering top-performing funds while championing high ethical standards. He was widely respected for his integrity, his willingness to challenge wrongdoing, and his long service in the small cap sector.

Patrick was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours for public and political service.

We extend our deepest condolences to Patrick’s wife, Sheena, and daughter, Sarah, and to all his family and friends at this sad time. We are profoundly grateful for his many years of service, generosity, and leadership, and for the immeasurable contribution he made to our Association, our Party, and the Two Cities.

Information about memorial arrangements will be shared in due course.
