Think I’ve found a creative home to share for the next 6 months in the heart of beautiful Wiltshire. Going to be interesting to see how being surrounded by rolling hills, woodland and open plains with soaring Buzzards influences my work! Moving the studio in a few weeks… lots more sifting and sorting to do - exciting adventure with Spring and Summer ahead 😎🌞💚🌳

A goodbye this week to my London home which has been a sanctuary and base for a decade (these wild sentinels will definitely be coming).

My studio remains in Kingston Upon Thames so work life continues just as soon as possible.

Thankyou for your support and I’ll be back soon with exciting new works and events to share.

I write this knowing that thousands of people are currently displaced or fleeing their beloved homes and country to avoid war and terror.

A giant has passed - goodbye Reverend Desmond Tutu. A man whose presence was felt by us so strongly through our lives.

This icon has left us...
he fought every aspect of injustice as long as he was alive.
I had the honour of meeting him many times over. His work in the townships in the eighties, his powerful role as chairman of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, his outspoken stance related to the ANC, serving their own interests.
This image was made with his full cooperation when I was working on my book Truth and Lies about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. A conversation the night before with a group of journalists working on the TV series, Special Assignment Max du Preez Anneliese Burgess about the quintessential image of the TRC. We discussed the moving moment when Tutu had wept as he heard the testimony of Sinqokwana Malgas who was imprisoned on Robben Island 1964-1977 & who was subsequently detained and tortured (using the helicopter method of torture)on several occasions between 1977 and 1989 in the Eastern Cape.
I was shooting on a 4x5 camera -Tutu said to me "I am so tired, I don't mind to put my head on my hands and rest a while for you"...later he inscribed a print for me with his signature and the words "God Bless You"
He blessed so many and as one friend put it "he made the world feel like a better place"

Very happy to have been sent this photo of my work hanging in a family kitchen space ready for Christmas.

It’s a piece called Trouble in Paradise from my Fragile Earth Series.

This is a 100 x 100 cms Giclee print, my buyer framed it with non reflective glass which is smart when you’ve got big windows nearby.

What I love is the idea of the storytelling amongst her teenage sons with their mates in the kitchen with Jo… it makes me feel warm inside.

Channelling and incubating.

This time between now and the new year is going to be spent working on new ideas for a body of work for 2022.

I have a couple of exciting projects which are bubbling which I can’t yet talk about.

I’m also getting ready to welcome my son from Australia who I haven’t seen for 2 years! Also meeting his lovely GF and having a special reunion this Christmas with his sister and the fam.

Lastly, I am moving!

Not sure yet where, but have pulled up my anchor in SW London and allowing myself to drift with prevailing winds for a little while.

Not a million miles away and keeping my studio whilst I design the next chapters.

It is both exciting and scary in equal measure 😊😎

I’ll still be present here but posting less frequently at this busy time.

Wishing all of you a peaceful time to stay well and being with your loved ones.

And it’s a WRAP!

A successful Open Studio and group show event which was a constant flow of curious visitors who I love to engage with.

Why, how, when and what. It’s often the storytelling which allows the viewer to see through my eyes.

You’ll be relieved to hear that I also give them space to look at the artwork quietly - without any interference or pressure.

Funny looking back to see how much I use my hands and body language.

Not surprising since I have a deaf family and we all use sign in various forms 🤟👈🤌👇👍🙌👋👋💋

Floor painted … got to the door and realised I’d left my photographers spotlight plugged in and had to walk over wet paint to unplug last night 🤪🤣✅

Looking forward to welcoming visitors tonight 5-9pm and weekend 11am-5pm.

It’s cold out there but warm in my studio luckily!
