🦊 Free We Grow is a 3 day per week drop off provision for unschooled/ home educated children from ages 6 to 12 years old.

🌳 Set in a beautiful nature reserve in South London, it’s a super fun and loving self-directed educational space, where children learn through play and have the freedom to choose cool things they’d like to learn about and explore!

🐞 Please join us to find out more about the project, meet the facilitators, some of the kids, explore the woods and hang out and play!

Roll up roll up, and join us for a Dacres Wood Open Day!!
This coming Saturday 28th February from 1pm to 4pm
Dacres Wood, Honeyfield Mews, Forest Hill, SE23 2NH

This beautiful reserve is generally closed off to the public, to protect the nature, apart from the last Saturday of every month when we fling open our gates wide open to the whole community!

And we have an AWESOME lineup this Saturday;

1 to 2pm - Pond dipping
Come and discover the mini creatures & beasts lurking in our magical pond

2 to 3pm - A global choral celebration for Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday.
We will be learning the song together and filming this, to be included alongside other choirs world wide in a music video being made for Sir David!

3 to 4pm - Bird feeder making
Make a bird feeder to take home, supporting the wildlife at this tricky time of year

PLUS
A hot chocolate stall and an outdoor beyblade arena, created by the children!

The event is free to attend and is hosted by Free We Grow's children, facilitators and parents, in association with the Friends of Dacres Wood & Lewisham Council.

Sciiiieeeence science science everywhere!
Science happens all the time at FWG! Usually through play and exploration, and occasionally through specific offerings linked to the children’s interests!
Here are a few snippets from our autumn term just gone!
1 - the marvels of the pond! Truly some of the pond creatures are superheroes!
2- learning to capture and refract the rays of the sun to make fire
3- collecting and comparing different soil types
4- ph testing our spit after eating different snacks!
5- foraging for rose hips, which are super high in vitamin c! 20 times more than an orange by weight!
6- constructing a frame
7- making natural ph testing liquid using cabbage
8- our regular Mad Sciene club, this time with instructions to make elephant toothpaste
9- play with shapes
10- elephant toothpaste!

We love parents coming in to read and tell and act and co-create stories with us for the last 15 minutes of the day! This is a new routine at Free We and it’s magical! Thank you all you wonderful FWG parents! We love you!!

Our community meets Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and we have just a few spaces left for 2025/2026.

💫 Hello fellow home edders and unschoolers!

🌳 Our family is part of this beautiful project called Free We Grow in Dacres Wood, Forest Hill, where my daughter attends 3 days per week. It's a magical, self-directed learning space in the heart of the woods. There are no formal lessons, children learn as they play and have complete autonomy to plan what their day looks like!

🌲 It’s aimed at children aged 5 to 11 years old that are home-educated/ unschooled in South London.

🌴 Every term, we invite potential new families to visit the project and learn all about our ethos, vibes, self-directed learning, emergent curriculum and the fun & games the children get up to!
