A year ago today we launched the Dagenham & Rainham White Ribbon Strategy and set up a working group with local men and women to help us develop a plan to support the elimination of VAWG locally.
What a first year it has been!
Sue and Harriet - the co-Chairs of the strategy highlight only a small amount of their work this year alone and the plans for the future so far!
Happy International Women’s Day and 1st Birthday to the Strategy!

Dagenham & Rainham White Ribbon Strategy
Co-Chaired by Rainham resident Sue and Dagenham resident Harriet - working to together to help the community raise awareness to end VAWG in our area 🤍
This some members of our working group have reflected on how women’s social and legal rights globally are still disproportionate.
Fantastic organisations such as UN Women UK and more are supporting the calls this year for equal rights everywhere

Sue and Harriet attended the White Ribbon UK Parliamentary Reception in Westminster this evening, sponsored by Emily Darlington MP.
Interesting contributions from Emily Darlington MP, Deputy Speaker Caroline Noakes MP and Josh Babarinde MP as well as Professor Olga Jurasz on her work on OVAWG (Online Violence) and White Ribbon UK CEO Lynne Elliot - if there is anything to take from this evening it is standing with men to make the case for ending misogyny and VAWG, increasing education for younger people on VAWG and abuse and standing together to make unity our strength.
Powerful contributions and important discussions had about ending misogyny and violence against women and girls. We were honoured to speak with numerous parliamentarians, trustees, academics and the White Ribbon CEO about our work locally and with West Ham on encouraging them to adopt accreditation status.

Our Co-Chairs were at their respective Town Halls in Barking and Dagenham & Havering today honouring the survivors of abuse and violence and standing together to speak up against VAWG in aid of White Ribbon UK Day and the start of the 16 Days of Activism.
In Barking and Dagenham, Harriet was chosen to raise the LBBD White Ribbon flag in front of Barking Town Hall, the Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care highlighted we need to change the narrative - many are survivors, not just victims of abuse and it is paramount that we believe survivors of violence and abuse.
Havering held a VAWG conference with the theme Men Challenging Men, which Sue attended with local councillors and the local MP. Inspirational speakers spoke movingly of how men can challenge other men's misogyny. We then raised the White Ribbon Flag at the Town Hall and walked down Market Place, Romford to stand together - We Speak Out.
