June is Pride Month, a time to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community while also raising awareness of issues that too often go unseen, including domestic abuse. 🌈

In the LGBTQ+ community:
• 1 in 4 le***an people experience domestic abuse
• 1 in 5 bis*xual people experience domestic abuse
• 1 in 4 trans people experience domestic abuse

At Solace, we support LGBTQ+ survivors and are here for anyone experiencing abuse.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse Solace is here for you.

Women who say they have information about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor do not have enough faith in British police to speak to them, the BBC reports.

Have you ever been told you’re “too sensitive,” that you’re lying, or that you “can’t take a joke”?

These statements can be a form of gaslighting and a way to avoid accountability.

If this feels familiar, you’re not alone.

Two women have told the BBC they were r***d during the filming of one of Channel 4's biggest shows, Married at First Sight UK, while a third has described an allegation of a non-consensual s*x act.

Nahar Choudhury, chief executive of Solace, said: “These horrifying allegations point to the widespread apathy around women’s safety and cavalier attitudes towards s*xual violence that permeate our society.

“The premise of the show may be high-stakes relationship-based drama, but the supposed ‘reality’ of reality television should not be carried into the lives of participants: no one should ever be placed at risk of violence and abuse.

“The physical and emotional impact of s*xual assault can stay with women for the rest of their lives, impacting their mental health and future relationships. If you or anyone you know has been s*xually assaulted, please reach out to Solace for support.”

The "boys will be boys" trope is more than just a phrase. It is a dangerous excuse rooted in misogyny that dismisses harmful behaviour and shifts accountability.

When we excuse aggression or disrespect as a natural trait, we reinforce a culture that enables abuse. It is time to stop making excuses and start calling it out.

If you’re a survivor of domestic abuse, Solace is here for you.

As tireless champions of the women's sector working to end violence against women and girls, Jess Phillips and Alex Davies-Jones raised the profile of women's right to safety on a national scale.

Their vocal perseverance supported huge strides in our work, amplifying the voices of survivors and instigating change that will benefit generations.

We anxiously await the new appointees, as any delay could impact the government's promise to halve violence against women and girls.

May 11–17th marks Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

This week, we’re highlighting the link between women seeking mental health support and survivors of domestic abuse.

Instead of questioning “why didn’t she ask for help?”, we need to recognise that support isn’t equally accessible for everyone.

Barriers can include language, cultural stigma, fear around immigration status, or simply not knowing where to turn.

Women accessing mental health support are 3x more likely to have experienced domestic abuse in the past year.

If you’re a survivor of domestic abuse, please know you’re not alone. Solace is here for you.

Dependancy creation is when a partner gradually makes you rely on them for things like day to day decision making, money and support.

This can make it harder for a survivor to leave because of that reliance.

We understand how isolating and helpless this can feel.

If you're a survivor of domestic abuse, Solace is here for you.

Are you a survivor of domestic abuse?

Research from the National Centre for Domestic Violence reveals that domestic abuse incidents increase by 26% when our national team plays, 38% if they lose, and 11% the day after, regardless of the outcome.

We’re launching a campaign ahead of the World Cup this June and want to hear how football culture has impacted your experience.
