Today Col Mark Nooney MC and Rob Withall from RHQ represented the Regiment in tge town of La Albuera to malr 215th anniversary of the Battle of Albuhera.

Battle of Albuera 16/05/2026

Today marks the 215th anniversary of the Battle of Albuhera. A key battle honour for the PWRR with three forebear Regiments involved; 3rd of Foot, 31st of Foot and 57th of Foot.

Amazing vignettes within the wider tale include the actions of Lt Matthew Latham for saving the 3rd of Foot (Buffs) Kings Colour. The actions of Lt Col Inglis for urging the 57th to 'Diehard the 57th, Diehard', and the disciplne displayed by the Spanish troops as they carried our a relief in place under fire.

Battle of Albuera – British Battles

Battle of Albuera Marshal Beresford’s hard-fought battle against Marshal Soult on 16th May 1811 during the Peninsular War, with his army of British, Portuguese and Spanish troops.
