Billy Boston is a Welsh former professional rugby league footballer who played as a wing or centre. He was born on 6 August 1934 in Butetown, Cardiff, Wales. Boston began his career as a rugby union player before joining Wigan in 1953. He spent the next 15 years at Wigan, where he scored a club-record 478 tries in his 488 appearances for the club.
Asked why Cardiff rugby union clubs had missed this speedy colossus with a wicked side step, he could only conclude they didn’t select him because of the colour of his skin.
Wales’ loss was Wigan and rugby league’s gain. Boston went on to become the second-highest try scorer in rugby league history, scoring 571 tries in his career.
