Well done Havering Police 👏🏽
On Friday 19, September, officers from the Romford Town Centre Team were carrying out proactive patrols around Romford town centre when they stopped a vehicle on the Union Road Estate.
Officers initially observed behaviour that gave them grounds to suspect the driver may have been involved in the supply of controlled drugs. The driver was detained and searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
Officers recovered a substantial quantity of cash, believed to be in excess of £20,000.
Further searches led to the discovery of more approximately 100,000 illegal ci******es.
The driver arrested on suspicion of money laundering and has been bailed pending further investigation. He is due to return on 18, December.
Officers are now working alongside Havering Trading Standards and HMRC to investigate the alleged supply of illicit to***co products and will consider all available enforcement options as enquiries continue.
Inspector Charlie Routley, From Havering Neighbourhoods said:
“This is about much more than ‘cheap ci******es’. The discovery of a substantial amount of cash alongside a large quantity of illicit to***co highlights the clear links between this trade, money laundering and organised crime.
Illicit to***co poses serious health risks, undermines legitimate businesses and, through our local intelligence, we know it can be sold to children. The profits generated from this trade can also be used to fund wider criminality, causing significant harm to the communities we serve.
Havering Police and Havering Council will continue to work together to disrupt this activity, target those responsible and utilise all available enforcement powers, including Closure Orders where appropriate.
If you have concerns about a business or individual involved in the sale of illicit to***co or other criminal activity, please report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online."
