Artwork: 'Sirat - The Path' Limited Edition Giclée Print with 24k Gold Leaf by Mobeen Akhtar
Framing: Float mounted in a hex pine frame w/ cabernet stain and hard wax oil hand finish with spacers to match and museum glass. .london
Artist info: "Mobeen Akhtar is a self-taught British Pakistani artist whose practice traces a parallel journey of spiritual, cultural, and environmental reflection. Working with traditional miniature techniques, she seeks a deeper connection with the Divine while exploring her identity as a British-born woman of the diaspora. Her work grows from a place of quiet contemplation and unfolds through a slow, meditative process that enables her to examine different facets of human existence, including spirituality, ethics, moral inquiry, and the physical mark we leave on the Earth. Her inquiry extends into the unseen, recognising that the energies created through human action move beyond the tangible world and leave an imprint on the metaphysical realm, the unseen space in which the soul resides.
..Her work responds to the challenges we face both individually and globally. She is driven by a desire to bring light into places of darkness and to encourage reflection on what unites rather than divides." www.mobeenakhtar.co.uk

Artwork: 99 names..., ink on faux leather.
Framing: Ash frame with black stain and natural beeswax hand finish. .london
Artwork info: This calligraphic painting of the 99 names of Allah was commissioned by a client from an Islamic Calligraphy artist. The Square Kufic design looks futuristic, yet it is in fact an ancient script. "The Kufic script is a style of Arabic script that gained prominence early on as a preferred script for Quran transcription and architectural decoration, and it has since become a reference and an archetype for a number of other Arabic scripts. It developed from the Arabic alphabet in the city of Kufa, from which its name is derived." Wikipedia
"...based on the original Arabic script without vowels and diacritical dots. It dates from the early Middle Ages but looks like modern design. In fact: most laypeople do not even recognise it as text. It is called ‘Square Kufic’....Designs like these can be easily executed in tiles or pixels, so they look like ‘designs’ instead of texts." shirhashirim.wordpress.com/2008/02/12/square-kufic/

Segal approaches art as a platform to construct models that propose new narratives around existing practices. Employing paintings, installations, performances, proposals and invitations, his works function as links between life and art by reframing the way in which we critically engage in daily practices while interacting with life in a creative way. In this last year, Segal has been working in a private residency in London, exploring the return to painting, building the body of works researching the themes Sexuality and Parenthood..." www.highgateartfair.co.uk
