Its been a very busy week here at Hawthorn Fire Protection Ltd. We are expanding our territories and now supporting high value customers in Latin America for AutofireX and Bandweaver products.

This week has been focused on delivering. UL listed systems and distributor training in person in Panama for customers based in Brazil, Colombia, Chilie, Trinidad and Tobego, Cuba and Mexico.

This week is something different for Hawthorn Fire Protection.

I have been up north to see some good friends of ours, Firetrace Ltd for an overdue catch up over coffee with Tommy and Neil.

It been a very worthwhile visit talking about our projects and what we are planning on focusing on this year.

Very much looking forward to working with their products again.

Today we made a new addition to our training aids.

We recognise that not everyone is able to learn and take in information delivered from textbooks, or on screen presentations.

Many of us need to experience, do or see in person the topic that we are discussing.

Our Fire Tetrahedron allows us teach the elements that sustain a fire.

Heat -
Combustible materials are generally safe and stable before heat is added, remove the heat and you take away a key factor sustaining a fire.
Cool the burning material down prevents reignition.

Oxygen -
A fire requires oxygen to burn, remove or reduce the oxygen levels to less than 7% concentration and the flames and embers will suffocate and not be able to sustain combustion.

Fuel -
Many things can be the fuel to a fire, Class A materials such as wood or textiles, Class B like oils, petrol and paint. Class C - gases, Class D metal swarf, Class F - cooking oils and fats.
Remove the fuel or coat it in a protective layer will prevent it from burning further.

Chemical Reaction -
Some very common consumer products such as Lithium-ion batteries don't need Oxygen to sustain a fire, they create their own, through chemical decomposition. We need to interrupt the chemical chain reaction to stop these fires.
The chain reaction can start by heat being applied to the product or taking damage and creating a short circuit as an point of ignition.

Each of these elements can be tackled individually or several at the same time.

The Portable Fire Extinguishers that we offer are all tested and certified to remove at least one of these elements by cooling, suffocating, coating or interrupting the chemical chain reaction.
