Work on a scheme to improve pedestrian and road user safety on a main road outside a Kidsgrove high school begins in the new year.
The 15-week scheme on Gloucester Road by St John the Evangelist Catholic Academy starts on Monday 5 January and is being entirely funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

The scheme involves construction of new zebra crossings on Gloucester Road, installation of new speed cushions, parking area improvements and resurfacing. It’s part of a wider package of improvements for the school.

To ensure the works can be carried out safely, temporary traffic signals will be in operation for the duration of the works. In addition, a full road closure will be needed for a fortnight to complete the surfacing and road marking activities.

The closure has been scheduled during the school Easter holiday to minimise disruption to the local community and road users.

Patrick Allen, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Support Member for Highways, said:

This DfE funded scheme will significantly improve safety most importantly for school students and the wider community.

A new zebra crossing is an invaluable asset and while the scheme will take 15 weeks to complete, it’ll bring much-needed improvements.

The road closure has been coordinated with the school Easter holiday to minimise disruption, though we’d ask people to bear with us while work takes place and thank them in advance for their patience.”

There are growing calls for David Lammy to resign after he accused Nigel Farage of "flirting with the Hitl*r Youth".

According to a poll by the Daily Express, 99% of its readers believe that Lammy should resign over the comments.

What do you think?
