Wednesday night, we had leaders from the likes of Goldman Sachs, The Big Issue and the Financial Times come and sit in a nightclub and talk work with us.
Not to a conference centre. To our hub on Wimbledon’s high street, on a weeknight, to sit with local people and share a space together.
That was the first Work In Series event.
No pitches. No slide decks.
Just people who do the job explaining how they actually got there, what’s hard and what they wish someone had told them at 18.
Over a million young people in this country are not in education, employment or training. Most aren’t short of potential. They’re short of a room like this one.
Careers advice tends to come as information. A website, a leaflet, fifteen minutes with an adviser. This isn’t careers advice. It’s access.
Knowing someone who does the job. Having asked them the obvious question without feeling daft. That’s what changes what a young person thinks is possible for them.
