So pleased to hear HMO planning application has been refused for 49 Kings Way in Marlborough ward.

It goes to show that when we come together we can change things!

Local residents ran a fantastic campaign which Arise Councillor Pamela Fitzpatrick was delighted to support. Residents organised a petition against the plans and earlier this summer Arise volunteers joined councillor Fitzpatrick to deliver letters to residents explaining how they could lodge an objection to the planned HMO if they wished.

We've protected a family home from being converted to an HMO. We desperately need more housing, but HMOs are a race to the bottom. We need family homes and social housing. The solution to this crisis not forcing people to live in shoebox sized homes in terrible conditions putting strain on local infrastructure and communities.

Arise councillor for Marlborough ward, Pamela Fitzpatrick, yesterday ran her second "surgery".

During our doorstep campaign for the local elections, one of the things that was very clear to our campaigners was that the operations and functions of local democracy are a mystery to many residents. Surgeries are a really important way for residents to access support with local issues, so here's an explainer on how they work.

Surgeries are confidential drop in advice sessions where residents of a ward can go and speak to their local councillor.

Harrow is divided into smaller areas called "wards". Each ward elects either 2 or 3 councillors to represent the residents of that area. To find out which ward you live in, Google "find your councillor Harrow" and search by postcode on the council website.

The council is mainly responsible for the provision of services. Your councillor can therefore advise and advocate for you on issues related to things like housing, education, rubbish collections and environmental issues amongst other things.

Pamela's surgery is held monthly (except August and December) for Marlborough residents on the 3rd Saturday of the month in Greenhill library. If you want to attend, you don't need to make any appointment. Library staff will direct you to a seated waiting area. Residents are seen in order they arrive in a private room.

Final polling day reflections. Arise candidate for Headstone ward, Amaan Choudhry ran a campaign where he impressed and inspired us all with his energy, passion and talent.

Amaan is young. He balanced this campaign with running his own local business and sitting his university exams. Amaan wanted to stand in his home ward because he loves his community and at just 21 had already been involved with many local campaigns. We knew he knew his patch inside out, what we didn't know was that he would have such a talent for connecting with residents and communicating his pitch on the doorstep. His passion and energy are contagious, so many residents reached out to Arise to compliment Amaan for his campaign, and on polling day his hard work paid off with Amaan achieving 1078 votes. With fewer activists, resources, funding and less party infrastructure than all his opponents, this result was testament to Amaan's hard work and talent.

Thank you to the voters in Headstone that put their faith in Amaan and Arise. It wasn't to be this time, but we're not going anywhere.

Dante Korjov and Faran Khan were first time candidates. Not new to politics or campaigns at all, both had worked and volunteered advocating for tenants rights, in foodbanks, campaigning for Palestinian rights and much more. But when they started their campaign they didn't know so much about electoral campaigns. They picked it all up so quickly and the two of them spent months door knocking in Wealdstone North nearly every single day. But whenever other ward teams needed help Dante and Faran could be relied on without exception, they are people motivated fundamentally by a desire to help the people around them and we are so lucky to have them on our team. While most of us spent Saturday resting up after the campaign, Faran sent us a list of his ideas of ways we can continue to help people in the community. Any team would be lucky to have them.

Dante and Faran didn't win the election in Wealdstone North, but as people motivated by a love for our community and a deep rooted passion for social justice they are not going anywhere. We're so proud of them and their campaign.

This is just the beginning for Dante, Fran, and all at team Arise 🌄💜

Not to be for Paul Crimmins and Aghileh Djafari Marbini in Wealdstone South. Paul was just 34 votes short of getting elected, and Aghileh a few votes behind him. They would have made fantastic councillors, and they ran a brilliant campaign.

The truth is they start again on Monday morning working in the community, at the organisation in the ward Aghileh founded, helping local families. These were not paper candidates, imported candidates, candidates looking for a career in politics who turned up for election season. Paul and Aghileh have both lived in the ward for years and have seen the decline and neglect in the area. They decided to do something about it and Aghileh set up a community organisation in the area she loves. The idea of being on the council was to be able to get better support for those residents and neighbours they are already helping through their work. This is how local politics should be. Building in the community from the ground up. The leg work, the hard work comes over years, not just in the run up to election time.

Coming so close but falling short hurts. But all at Arise take such inspiration from Paul and Aghileh's work in their local community. This is how we build. From the ground up. We are not going anywhere. This is our bread and butter, our day in day out, election or no election. Thank you Aghileh and Paul for showing us all what community organising looks like. We are proud of your passion and hard work, in the campaign but more importantly, in the community.

To those residents who voted for us, thank you! We are not going anywhere 🌄💜

While Pamela Fitzpatrick was the only Arise candidate elected, a huge congratulations from everyone at team Arise to her amazing running mates who came so close to joining her.

Sheila Guhadasan and Asha Mohamed ran an inspiring campaign. All three candidates in Marlborough ward have been working in the ward for years in local charities and organisations. They've campaigned and organised on the ground for many years. While Pamela will add her council duties to everything she's already doing, Sheila and Asha will also continue to work for our community day in day out as they always have. They are community campaigners who don't just pop up around election time, they are embedded in the community and constantly working to bring change.

Having a seat on the council will help get us closer to bringing change, it will open up doors for us to help people. But Pamela, Sheila and Asha have already dedicated their lives to helping our community from the grassroots up, and that won't change.

Everyone at Arise could not be prouder of them♥️🌄

For the record, Pamela received 878 votes, Sheila 722 and Asha 660.

Arise candidates for Roxeth ward, Farid Mall, Kirsten Perkins and Yihya Sirhan ran an amazing campaign!

They worked incredibly hard and spent so many hours speaking to residents on the doorstep. They met so many residents who are as ready for change as we are.

Kirsten, Farid and Yihya got 458, 404 and 378 votes respectively. First time candidates, from a standing start, with no historical data or party infrastructure, and very little money, their achievement is truly inspiring.

Congratulations from everyone at team Arise to our wonderful candidates, this is just the start! ♥️🌄

To every volunteer that helped them, heroes!!!

To every voter that put their trust in them, we thank you. We didn't win this time but we hear your voice calling for change in Harrow and we will continue to work to bring that change! Join us!
