Join in the fun and take up the opportunity to trade at this years Santa Dash in aid of Lowestoft and District Foodbank !

We are adding Christmassy feels to the event with entertainment , music and a Santas Grotto but spaces still remain if you want to take part as a trader

Back in it's heyday the autumn months was the busiest time of the year for the old Beach Village.
With the arrival of the Scots fisher girls and fishing fleets, the Grit's population doubled for the Herring fishing season.

Join us and guest speaker Dean Parkin as we explore 'Autumn on the Grit', which shares stories, photos, archive audio and film about Lowestoft's long-lost fishing village in its busy autumn months.
As well as a tribute to Jack Rose; Mr Lowestoft, who co-wrote the book 'The Grit' alongside Dean Parkin.

Plus a rare opportunity to put your questions to Dean Parkin in an exclusive Q&A segment.

Sharing is Caring at Christmas ! .... so share this news with huge amounts of Festive Cheer 🧑‍🎄🧑‍🎄🧑‍🎄

In only 54 days until Santa Dash is Back and this year with extra Christmassy feels as we add extra stalls , music , entertainment and ................ Santas Grotto !!
A great opportunity for the little ones to say 'Hi to the Big Guy' before the other big event which is 73 Days away !

So if you are not one of the fit , festive and slightly barmy folk who will be signing up to run circa 4 k dressed as Santa , an Elf or a Reindeer there will still be excellent reasons to take the family to Denes Oval for a Festive Day out.

Calling all Fun Festive Folk ! - Get sharing ... there's only 55 days to go ! ( and 74 to that other event :-) )

This year Santa Dash returns with added Christmassy feels ! 🧑‍🎄🎄🧑‍🎄

On December 6th at Denes Oval even if we cant convince you to run 4k in an inflatable reindeer outfit ( a pastime mainly for the fit , festive and mildly barmy ) we will be inviting traders and entertainers to take part and create for you a fantastic festive family day out ( four legged friends also welcome ! )

We hope to have a wide variety of Festive Traders and want to hear from you all but ..... we are particularly interested to hear from

Handmade Christmas Gifts
Festive Treats and Produce

Tour dates released soon...... Luca and the Scores ! 😎🎸🎶

During August the project team worked alongside some fantastic young local talent as part of the When Lowestoft Rocked Exhibition.

The exhibition invites residents young and old to uncover, record and share the towns musical stories from the 1960s to the early 2000s.

In this case the youngsters were not uncovering but discovering their own talents !

In four sessions over four weeks , they wrote the music and lyrics for an original song , recorded the instrumental's and vocals complete with a promotional video and album art ( Pictured above ) .... Phew !!!!

No mean feat and those involved should be rightly proud of their hard work !

The track will also feature in the exhibition when the Town Hall opens in the spring alongside the towns association with giants of the industry like The Rolling Stones The Kinks and The Darkness

"It was the first time that the future was shaped by young people"

The project team enjoyed a fantastic afternoon yesterday at The Seagull Theatre where as part of a series of engagement activities we screened the documentary film My Generation.

The almost packed auditorium had a real buzz and there was much laughter and even some singing along as the assembled audience were transported back to the 60s.

It was a great opportunity for us not only to have a enjoyable afternoon but to have the chance to speak with so many local residents about the Town Hall regeneration and the planned When Lowestoft Rocked exhibition.

Given the quote that started this post it was also great to talk about two recent activities where local young people became involved in the project to produce material for the exhibition and for a more permanent installation. Watch this space for updates on the amazing work those young people have been doing !
