We may have been a little quiet recently, but we’ve still been busy engaging with our community and responding to emergencies 🚒💨

On the 3rd of October, we attended the 3, 4 & 6 Bn REME Combined Families Day.

It was a fantastic day bringing military families together. We Loved seeing different cultures, music and food alongside military vehicles and equipment.

A big thank you to everyone who took the time to chat with us. It was great to be part of such a brilliant day! 💂🏻‍♂️👨‍🚒🚒💨

🚒🚴 THE GRAND FIRE RIDE 2026 🚴‍♀️🚒

Yesterday, 22 September, the Grand Fire Ride set off from Lyme Regis, beginning an epic 760km+ challenge visiting all 50 of our fire stations over five days before finishing at Bristol Children’s Hospital on Saturday 26 September.

The ride is dedicated to Aldo, a brave five-year-old currently receiving treatment for brain cancer at Bristol Children’s Hospital. His courage and resilience have inspired the riders and everyone supporting this challenge. ❤️

On Friday 25 September, the 4th day of the ride, FF Clements and CM Sibley will be joining the riders for the Day 4 route 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️

The aim is to raise as much money as possible for The Fire Fighters Charity and The Grand Appeal, supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital and the families who rely on its care.

💙 Every donation makes a difference.

🎁 There is also a silent auction, with some fantastic items available to bid on:

This is an epic effort by a group of our staff, and we would really appreciate your support. Whether you donate, bid in the auction, or simply share the fundraiser, every bit helps. ❤️🚒🚴

Good luck to all the riders — and especially FF Clements and CM Sibley for Day 4! 💪

Today is the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in America, which saw lives lost in New York, the Pentagon and Pennsylvania.

At 1.46pm, the exact time the first aircraft struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center in Manhattan (UK time), we will join other fire and rescue services in holding a one minute silence in memory of all those who perished.

We will also be remembering the courage, commitment and selflessness demonstrated by firefighters on that day, and to honour the lasting legacy of the 343 who did not return home.

On 27 July, our Ludgershall crew, with support from Amesbury Group 2 ,took part in an RTC (Road Traffic Collision) demonstration exercise for 2 Medical Regiment in Tidworth 2 Medical Regiment , as part of a drink-drive awareness and road safety campaign. Wiltshire Police Wiltshire Police also attended providing road safety advice.

The demonstration aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of drink driving and promote safer driving.
The session covered the whole RTC response, from arriving at the scene, assessing and caring for the casualty, vehicle extrication, and handing the casualty over to the ambulance crew.

Working together in a controlled environment, our crews demonstrated each stage of the process, with one of our Crew Managers talking through the incident and explaining the actions being taken throughout.
It was a great opportunity to work alongside our colleagues and partners, demonstrating the importance of teamwork, communication and road safety, while highlighting the potentially devastating consequences of drink driving. 🚒👮💂🏻‍♂️

On Saturday morning we were mobilised with crews from Westlea Fire Station and Swindon Fire Station along with a water carrier from Royal Wootton Bassett Fire Station and a light off road vehicle from Ludgershall Fire Station to a large stack of straw bales well alight.

On arrival we found that the fire had spread and was tearing through a nearby field and also threatening a row of trees near the bales. We quickly extinguished the fire in the field and then set about protecting the trees from further spread while addressing the burning bale stack itself.

Local farmers provided immediate assistance with their machinery, including cultivating fire breaks.

This came after a busy July for us where we received 39 mobilisations including Road Traffic Collisions, house fires, providing assistance to the Ambulance Service and a large number of outdoor fires.

We are currently recruiting. If you’d like the opportunity to serve your community in a varied role then please get in touch or visit https://www.dwfire.org.uk/working-for-us/on-call-firefighters/
