💚 Taking care of the people who care for others! 💚
Our Hedgerows training week wasn’t just about learning and development. We also made space for staff wellbeing.
Sarah, one of our wonderful support workers and a trained holistic therapist, treated the team to a relaxing sound bath, giving everyone an opportunity to slow down, reset and recharge. 🌿✨
Staff wellbeing plays an important part in building a positive workplace culture and links with the CQC Single Assessment Framework, including the Well-led focus on valuing and supporting the workforce. When colleagues feel supported and valued, they are better placed to continue delivering compassionate, person-centred care.
Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your skills with us! 🙌

Meet the Team 👋

Say hello to Liz King, our Registered Manager at Rusthall Adult Short Breaks. Liz has been part of KCC for an amazing 37 years!

What makes Liz most proud of her role is seeing the positive difference Short Breaks make to individuals and their families, helping people build confidence, skills and self-worth. For Liz, a smile or a high five says it all.

Outside of work, Liz loves exploring the countryside in her campervan, reading, and listening to audiobooks. Her perfect weekend involves discovering somewhere new by the water, enjoying good food, and curling up with a book and a beautiful view. 📚🚐🌊

If Liz could be any animal for a day, she'd choose a 🦁 lion: "short bursts of energy, eat, sleep and repeat!"

🎃 The scarecrow has arrived! 👻
She’s all dressed up and ready to take part in the scarecrow trail, but there’s just one thing missing… she needs a name! 🤍
What do you think we should call her? Pop your spooky, funny or creative suggestions in the comments below! 👇🎃
Taking part in community events such as the scarecrow trail provides opportunities for people to get involved, make choices and feel connected to their local community. This supports the CQC focus on person-centred care, wellbeing, inclusion and independence.

🐱☕ Cats, coffee and cake! 🍰
A lovely visit to the Rhodes Minnis Cat Sanctuary, spending some time with our furry friends, followed by a trip to the The Fifth Trust Vineyard Garden Centre and Café for a delicious slice of cake and a coffee.
Getting out and about and choosing places and activities that people enjoy is an important part of living a fulfilling life. Experiences like these support the CQC assessment framework through promoting choice and control, wellbeing, community involvement and person-centred support.
Sometimes the simple days are the best! 💙🐾

👻 Halloween has arrived at Rusthall! 🎃🤍
Spooky season is upon us and the decorations are up, helping to create a fun, welcoming and engaging environment for everyone at .
It’s not just about the decorations. Celebrating seasonal events can provide opportunities for people to get involved, make choices and enjoy activities that are meaningful to them. This supports a person-centred approach and reflects the CQC assessment framework, including a focus on people’s wellbeing, independence and individual preferences.
Happy Halloween! 👻🕷️🎃

🚨 What would you do if...? 🚨
That was the question for the Hedgerows team during a brilliant week of hands-on training!
There was plenty of role play, with our Manager and Service Coordinator pretending to be people we support who didn't want to leave the building during a fire evacuation. 🔥
The team had to put their training into practice, considering how they could keep everyone safe while responding calmly and sensitively to the individual.
Then came another challenge: what happens to our electric gate during a power cut? ⚡ The team worked through how we could still open the gate and maintain access during an emergency.
These real-life scenarios are a great way to test our knowledge and contingency arrangements. They link closely with the CQC Single Assessment Framework's Safe and Well-led themes, supporting effective risk management, learning and a strong safety culture.
Because good training isn't just knowing what the procedure says. It's knowing what to do when things don't quite go to plan! 💚

✅ Training Week at Whitstable Road… COMPLETE! 🎉
What a fantastic week it’s been for our team, packed with learning, teamwork, reflection and plenty of great conversations.
We’ve covered:
🙌 Moving & Handling
🧼 Hand Hygiene
💙 Sepsis Awareness
📝 Effective Record Keeping
🗣️ A full team meeting
🔥 An in-depth Fire Drill & Evacuation Exercise
A real highlight was our evacuation exercise. We didn’t just complete the drill and tick a box. We took time afterwards to reflect together on what went well, what we learned and what we could improve next time.
That approach links closely with the CQC assessment framework, particularly around creating a positive learning culture, keeping people safe, having skilled and knowledgeable staff, and using learning to continually improve the quality of care and support we provide.
Most importantly, this week was another reminder of what a great team we have at Whitstable Road. 💙 Everyone got involved, supported one another, shared ideas and approached each session with such a positive attitude.
👏 A huge well done and thank you to the whole team. You should all be really proud of what we’ve achieved together!

🐻🎃 A lovely day out in Canterbury!
What a fun-filled day exploring Canterbury for ! We visited Bagpuss at the The Beaney had lots of laughs dressing up as Rupert the Bear, and finished off by checking out all the spooky Halloween costumes. 👻🎃
Sometimes the best days are simply about dressing up, being silly and having fun together! 😊
Days out like this also support the CQC assessment framework by promoting choice, community involvement, meaningful activities and positive experiences, while giving the people we support opportunities to enjoy the things that interest them.

Meet the Team 👋

Say hello to Leanne Pardoe, our Business Support Coordinator!

Leanne has been with KCC for just over a year and a half and is proud of the confidence she's built in her role while supporting colleagues and helping services run smoothly.

A busy mum of four, Leanne spends much of her free time cheering on her children at ice skating and trampolining competitions. Her perfect weekend includes family time, a good film, and a nice meal out.

If she could be any animal, she'd be a 🦁 lion for its strength, courage, and loyalty.
