Today is Burns Awareness Day, and we are reminding everyone what to do if a burn or scald happens. Children and older people and those who may need extra support can be particularly at risk, so take a moment to think about where burns and scalds could occur in your home.

If a burn or scald does happen:

🚿 Cool the area under cool running water for 20 minutes
📞 For serious burns, call 999
🩹 Once cooled, cover loosely with cling film or a clean, non-fluffy dressing
❌ Never put ice, creams or butter on a burn

Firefighters were called to a house in , , following a garden fire believed to have started accidentally due to carelessly discarded smoking materials.

The flames spread to nearby trees, a shed and fence panels. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Crews are reminding people to make sure they:

✅ Ensure ci******es are fully extinguished and cooled before disposing of them
✅ Use a proper, heavy ashtray that can’t easily tip over

Let’s all do our bit to help prevent accidental fires! 🚒

With autumn well on its way, the weather is becoming more unpredictable and so is the risk of flooding. 🌧️

Please take extra care on the roads. If you see a sign warning of deep water, don’t drive through it. Even shallow-looking water can submerge your engine, damage your vehicle, and leave you stranded.

Before setting off, check for weather alerts and road closures. And if there’s a safer, longer route home, then please take it. It’s better to arrive late than not at all. 🚗💧

Let’s look out for one another, start conversations, and remind those around us that it’s okay to not be okay. 💚

Our crews are brushing up on their chimney kit skills, now its your turn to brush up on your chimney maintenance. Make sure you get it checked and swept before you light up this winter.

A chimney that hasn’t been swept can have a build-up of soot, tar and other debris. These deposits can catch fire, potentially causing a chimney fire that can spread into your home, that's why its important to have your chimney swept at least once a year.

And while you’re getting winter-ready:
✅ Make sure you use the right fuel for your stove or fireplace
✅ Keep anything flammable well away from the fire
✅ Check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working
✅ Never leave an open fire unattended
