🤝 Adam McKinley, Team Leader for the Maidstone, Tonbridge and Malling Community Warden Team, recently spoke to Sutton Valence WI about how wardens support local communities.

Adam explained how wardens help people who feel lonely or isolated, support vulnerable residents and work with partner organisations. He also shared practical advice on personal safety, scams and protecting yourself from fraud. 🛡️

Working with local partners and charities, Adam delivered a presentation on the Community Warden role, highlighting the support available to local residents and the importance of partnerships in the community.

Residents had the opportunity to speak with Adam, get advice and information on local issues, and learn more about the services available. Contact details for ongoing support from their local Community Warden was given out.

Incidents of doorstep crime often increase after periods of severe weather, with cold callers offering to inspect or repair supposed storm damage.

Rogue traders may claim urgent work is needed, pressure homeowners into making quick decisions, charge inflated prices or carry out poor-quality and unnecessary repairs.

🚫 Do NOT engage with cold callers. Legitimate traders don’t turn up uninvited.

⚠️ We’ve received reports of criminals calling residents in Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Chatham and Folkestone impersonating police officers.

📞 Residents are being called and told:
- Their bank account has been compromised
- Their card needs replacing
- A family member has been arrested
- They must buy gold
- A courier will collect their card, cash, or gold.

🚨 These are scams. The police will never ask for your financial details over the phone or send someone to collect your card, cash, or valuables.
