Measles is one of the most infectious diseases in the world.
This means it is easy to catch and easy to spread. People can be very ill or even die from it.
If you get measles when you are pregnant, it can harm your baby.
But there is a safe vaccination that can protect you.
This leaflet tells you about it.
How Measles spreads
It spreads in the air when someone coughs or sneezes.
What are the symptoms?
High temperature and skin rashes.
What problems can Measles cause?
Adults, and babies (under 12 months) are more likely to have other problems with it.
In some cases Measles can cause chest infections, fits, swelling of the brain and brain damage.
Children may have to go to bed for about 5 days and miss about 10 days of school.
Vaccine
You will be asked by school or your Doctor to have your child vaccinated. Please give your permission.
The vaccine is called an MMR jab.
It protects your child from Measles, Mumps and Rubella.
Your NHS states there is NO link between this vaccine and autism.
The vaccine is used all over the World and is as safe as any other
Contact you GP if you have any questions or concerns

Babies have lots of skills when it comes to regulating their own emotions.
Think about sucking and how this helps babies settle. Your baby may use:
• Fingers/thumbs/toes!
• Breast
• Dummies
• Comforters
And of course, sucking may also be a sign that baby is hungry.
Learning to recognise and respond to baby's cues can feel daunting and difficult, but is one of your most important jobs as a parent.
Sometimes if your baby is struggling to cope, they will manage to regulate their own emotions by, for example, sucking. However, at other times this won't be enough and they will need a parent or carer close by to cuddle them, hold them, rock them, feed them (literally filling them up with good stuff!) and to contain their difficult feelings.
