🌊 Water Safety Matters 🌊

With the current high temperatures, it can be tempting to cool off in rivers, lakes, quarries and other open water areas — but these environments can be far more dangerous than they appear.

Open water is unpredictable, especially where there are no lifeguards or safety measures in place. Hidden dangers can include:

👉 Very cold temperatures causing cold water shock or hypothermia
👉 Strong currents that can quickly pull even confident swimmers away from safety
👉 Sudden drops and unknown depths beneath the surface
👉 Slippery or steep banks making it difficult to get out of the water
👉 Hidden objects such as rocks, branches, debris, machinery or underwater hazards

Where possible, always choose supervised swimming areas with lifeguards present.

If you see someone in difficulty in the water:

📞 Call 999 immediately
📍 Give the exact location if possible
⚠️ Never enter the water yourself to attempt a rescue

If you get into difficulty in the water:

🛟 Try to stay calm and float on your back
🖐 Spread your arms and legs to help you stay afloat
🌊 Fight the instinct to panic or swim hard against currents
📣 Call for help if you can

Our thoughts are always with the emergency services and rescue teams responding to water-related incidents, particularly during periods of hot weather.

🛡️ Accountable – Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and know the signs of heat exhaustion

🚑 Signs of heat exhaustion can include:

• Dizziness
• Headache
• Nausea
• Excessive sweating
• Confusion

If symptoms worsen or someone becomes unresponsive, call 999 immediately.
