What Great News !
Customer benefits:
•
Simpler travel decisions: Customers no longer need to worry about which operator they are using or whether a return is better value. There will simply be one fare per journey.
•
Cheaper single fares: More than half of journeys (52%) will become cheaper, as many single fares are reduced to half the cost of a return.
•
Lower average fares: The change will mean that the average fare in Greater Manchester will fall by 5.6%.
•
Better flexibility: Passengers travelling out during peak hours but returning off-peak will only pay for the cheaper leg not a peak return.

Big news for renters across our community and right across England.
Labour’s Renters’ Rights Act has officially become law.
For the first time, renters will be protected from unfair ‘no fault’ evictions, giving families the security they deserve in their own homes.
After years of inaction from the Tories, Labour is delivering on our promise to rebalance the system and put renters on fairer footing.

Today, to revive the hope of peace and a two state solution, the UK formally recognises the State of Palestine. As the Prime Minister noted today, we recognised the state of Israel 75 years ago as a homeland for the Jewish people. Today, we join over 150 countries who recognise a Palestinian state also.
I am proud to be part of a Cabinet that agreed over summer how we would use the UK's voice as international leaders and allies to drive progress towards a just, secure and lasting peace in the Middle East, which in the last two years has tragically felt further away than ever. The UK will not give up on a two state solution. We have used our voice to say this: there can be a better future, for both Palestinian and Israeli peoples.

Tameside Labour is resolute in the need for immediate recognition of a Palestinian State.
Since October 2023, Labour Councillors across our whole city-region, including those in Tameside, have been calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages and for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
Here in Tameside, we have been heartbroken, devastated and horrified by the events of the past 21 months, and these calls have only become more pressing. Innocent men, women, and children of Palestine are starving to death whilst the world watches, and time is rapidly running out.
Whilst we have supported our government in the decisive action taken thus far, including the suspension of export licenses and the cessation of work on a trade deal with Netanyahu’s government, our representatives in government must now go further and recognise Palestine as a state. A two-state solution cannot happen without two states to negotiate, and every second wasted is another second where Gaza continues to face total annihilation.
Hamas must immediately release the Israeli hostages, who have now been separated from their families for nearly two years. Israel must immediately cease the disproportionate onslaught of its neighbour, allowing aid and medical care to access Gaza safely. Our government must immediately join France and the growing consensus of international law by recognising the State of Palestine.

As the nation commemorates VE Day, Labour is announcing a new UK-wide veteran support system, called VALOUR, to ensure veterans have easier access to care and support.
We owe a debt of gratitude to those prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
