Have you spotted this shelter in On the Line?

It is one of our popular exhibition features, and was built outside Deansgate Hospital in Manchester during the 1989–1990 ambulance workers’ strike, giving those on the picket line somewhere to shelter through the cold winter months.

You can now see it here at People’s History Museum and find out more about the workers who used it.

If you haven’t visited On the Line yet, there’s still time. Come along before it closes on Monday 2 November.

āœŠšŸ¼ ā€˜Stand Together!’

Ahead of Anti-Slavery Day this Sunday 18 October, we’re looking at the fight for fair treatment at work.

This poster supported the Grunwick strikers and their families. Led by Jayaben Desai, mainly South Asian women took strike action between 1976 and 1978 over working conditions and union recognition.

See it and learn about their campaign in our free exhibition, On the Line, before it closes on Monday 2 November.

šŸ’€ Can you keep a secret?

This skeleton once guarded the secrets of workers joining together to fight for better conditions. Painted around 200 years ago, it was revealed during secret ceremonies as new trade union members promised loyalty and silence.

A spooky warning to anyone thinking of breaking their promise…

This Halloween half-term, discover its story with our brand new FREE family activity for children aged 5–12, with an accompanying adult.
