Our main objectives were: (a) To create a stone path from the Kirkway entrance to Mainway East. (b) To ensure fish can swim up Wince Brook.

We surpassed all objectives. New paths now create an enjoyable walk. FWB had two objectives when it began in March 2011

(a) To lay a stone path from Kirkway to Mainway East. (b) That the water in Wince Brook is pure enough to sustain large fish. These objectives have, to a large extent, been completed by (a) RMBC Ranger Mike Cummings and (b) Oldham Water Treatment Plant, from which Wince Brook

A huge thanks to Mike Cummings & Mike Pomroy, RMBC, and 26 schoolchildren from Alkrington Primary, who have planted several fruit trees, but in a separate area from our community orchard. However, a Damson tree has been planted in the orchard to encourage fruiting of the Greengage.

The pathways in Wince Brook have now been completely resurfaced, and new paths and steps have been built to create a circular route. In fact, it looks the best it has ever been, and we commend Councillor Dylan Williams for his determination in arranging and organising the funds to pay for all the improvements. More people are already using it despite it being mid-winter.

Hi all,

Just an update on the paths between the Kirkway Entrance and Bridge 2 (behind the houses near The Happy Garden on Grimshaw Lane):

The path between Kirkway and Bridge 1 is currently closed.

The path between Bridge 1 and Bridge 2 is barely passable and very muddy.

Don't forget they are also clearing the land on Ramsden's Farm, so steer clear of that area as well.

If anything changes, please get in touch.

Rob

Three new houses are currently being built in Ramsden Farm Road, and we suggest that you refrain from entering Wince Brook from that direction until further notice. 🚧🏡 A gate will be constructed for entry into WB when the houses are built. 🏗️🚧 Please use the ginnel further up Roundthorn Rd. 🚶‍♀️⬆️

Hey everyone.

Looks like there's a willow tree down at the intersection of the styles at bridge 1, totally blocking the path. We've reported it and they're getting it cleared up ASAP.

Cheers,
Rob.

Not FWB related, however there is a chap that takes his dogs on Penrhyn Park. One Spaniel and a German Shepherd.

An incident occured this morning where the GS was off the lead and attacked Sonny David mcKail dog and bit him, not this first time I might add it did the same to Gus when he was a puppy.

David and Sonny are very upset and shaken, please be vigilant and if anyone knows the chap he needs to muzzle his dog or keep it on the lead.

Thanks
Jo (Secretary)
