๐ Speed Awareness โ Atherton Neighbourhood Policing Team ๐
Today on Hamilton Street, Atherton (20MPH limit), our team , supported by our fantastic Mini Police carried out a speed awareness operation to help keep our community safe.
๐ A total of 14 vehicles were stopped, with recorded speeds ranging from 26MPH to 31MPH.
Rather than enforcement, this was about education. Our Mini Police confidently introduced themselves as representatives of GMP and spoke with drivers about:
- The dangers of speeding
- Wet weather conditions (it rained heavily during the operation)
- Risks to pedestrians and animals
- The importance of slowing down around residential and school zones
๐ A big well done to our Mini Police for their excellent communication and professionalism, they did our community proud!
โ ๏ธ Even a few miles over the limit can have serious consequences. Please remember: 20 means 20 โ not 30.
Letโs all do our part to keep Athertonโs roads safe.

Operation Handbrake ๐๏ธ .... ๐
This weekend our team added another 5 off-road vehicles to our collection of seizures
Itโs almost like they heard the nice weather was coming out and thought, - โPerfect day to get my vehicle seized!โ โ๏ธ๐
As part of this operation we have tried to educate riders, there are plenty of legal and safe places to use an off roader, there are at least 2 in Wigan - Check the internet for more details.
Unlicensed and unsured vehicles on the roads are not acceptable to other road users.
Reminder: If your ride sounds like a swarm of angry bees and youโre putting the public at risk, itโs not just annoying itโs illegal. Under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act, antisocial or dangerous driving can get your vehicle seized.
Save yourself the walk home (and the paperwork)โฆ maybe stick to something with pedals instead ๐๐ฒ
