Firefighters are urging smokers to stub out and discard of ci******es properly after the back of a house caught alight in Loughton this evening.

A cigarette was discarded into a plastic container which started the fire, spreading to the fence and small BBQ cylinder, causing the fire to spread to the back of the property.

Watch Manager Glenn Jackson said: "If you smoke, please make sure you stub out and discard of your cigarette property. It only takes a small ember from the lit cigarette to start a fire. "

We attended a fire safety industry event today focused on one key message: competence and doing the right thing.

It reinforced something we’ve always believed fire safety isn’t just about qualifications or ticking boxes. It’s about applying knowledge properly, taking responsibility, and making sure the work we carry out genuinely protects people.

A big takeaway for us was the importance of maintaining high standards at all times. Even when things get busy, there’s no room for cutting corners in this industry.

We also took a lot from discussions around working more closely with our clients helping them understand their fire safety systems, their responsibilities, and how everything works to keep people safe.
