Easter Activities Observation
The children have been enjoying a range of Easter-themed activities. They have been developing their fine motor skills through hands-on experiences such as crafting and exploring different materials. The activities have encouraged imagination and creativity, with the children engaging in role play and expressing their own ideas.
They have also been building on their communication and language skills by talking about what they are doing and sharing their thoughts with others. Turn-taking and sharing have been positively observed during group activities.
We have explored colours, shapes, and textures throughout the activities, supporting the children’s understanding of the world around them through sensory play and discussion

Valentine’s Day Activities
The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in our Valentine’s Day activities. They explored paint in a fun and sensory way by feeling the texture through sealed bags, safely squishing and moving the paint around with their hands. This supported their sensory development while strengthening their fine motor skills.
The children also used paint brushes to carefully paint paper plates, which were later transformed into beautiful ladybirds. They showed great concentration and control while using the brushes, developing their hand–eye coordination and early mark-making skills.
It was lovely to see how proud they were when they saw the finished results of their hard work. The children beamed with happiness and confidence as they received praise and encouragement, supporting their emotional development and self-esteem.
Learning Opportunities:
Physical Development – Fine motor control and hand strength
Expressive Arts and Design – Exploring colour and creativity

Fine motor skills development is an important part of children’s Physical Development, as it strengthens the small muscles in their hands and fingers, supporting early writing, self-care skills and independence
The children explored a range of resources to build their fine motor control. They carefully fed pipe cleaners through the holes of a sieve, demonstrating hand–eye coordination and concentration. They used wooden circles for stacking, showing control and balance as they built towers. The children also practised threading beads, developing their pincer grip and perseverance as they worked to guide the beads onto the string.
These activities encouraged focus, problem-solving and resilience, while strengthening the muscles needed for future mark making and writing.

Mark Making and Sensory Exploration
Today the children developed their fine motor skills through mark making in coloured foam using a variety of utensils. They used different tools to create lines, swirls and patterns, strengthening the small muscles in their hands and supporting early writing development.
The children showed curiosity and engagement as they explored the foam, discussing the different colours they could see. They commented on the texture, describing it as “soft,” “fluffy,” and “squishy,” and noticed the smell of the foam during their sensory exploration.
This activity encouraged rich communication, with children talking about what they were creating and how the foam felt. It also supported their understanding of descriptive language and sensory awareness.

Fine Motor Skills Observation
Today the children enjoyed developing their fine motor skills through a variety of hands-on activities. They explored scooping, pinching, pouring and transferring materials using spoons and different sized measuring jugs.
The children showed good hand–eye coordination as they carefully filled and emptied containers, demonstrating control and concentration. They used their fingers to pinch and grasp smaller objects, strengthening the small muscles in their hands which supports early writing skills.
The children were engaged and curious, exploring capacity and size as they compared the different measuring jugs. This activity also encouraged early mathematical language such as “full,” “empty,” “more,” and “less.”
