Here are a few food myths we hear often:
π₯ Eggs are bad for cholesterol so you shouldn't eat them every day - MYTH! In the majority of people, eggs dont impact cholesterol levels. They are a great source of protein contacting all 9 essential amino acids!
π Carbs are high in calories and should be avoided - MYTH! Carbs contain half the calories of fat and provide us with energy, B vitamins and fibre!
π₯¬ 'I need to go on a detox diet' - MYTH! Your liver is an amazing organ that has over 500 functions including processing medications, nutrients and any toxins. A healthy balanced diet, such as the Mediterranean diet, supports healthy liver function

Being a dietitian is more than just a job, its sorting the food myths from the facts! π
Nutrition can often be a hot topic of conversation, but incorrect information can spread rapidly.
π‘As dietitians, it is our responsibility to provide only up to date evidenced based information and dispel the food myths. Whether that is at work in clinic or sometimes even in conversations with family & friends.
But, we dont know everything. We always speak to Dietetic colleagues/ other health care professionals about areas outside of our expertise, search the literature, or signpost to someone who may know!

It's already day 4 of Dietitian's week!
As this week is also , we thought we would share some amazing volunteer opportunities you can take part in as a dietitian, definitely making it more than just a job.
You can volunteer with the British Dietetic Association, in hospitals, on kids camps, and lots more!
π· Here's a picture of Rebecca volunteering on a Diabetes UK camp for children with Type 1 Diabetes a few years a go, where she had a role looking after the children, running activities, and supporting with mealtimes & carb counting.
βοΈThings Rebecca enjoys most about volunteering- "Seeing the young people making friends with others who have same condition as them & realise they can still enjoy all of the activities, learning from other health care professionals and getting to do all the fun activities myself!"
Why not share your volunteering pictures/ stories!?

Itβs day 2οΈβ£ of Dietitians Week and todayβs posts will share a snapshot about our workβ¦..
Did you know that dietitians often support autistic people with eating and drinking difficulties?
We are learning more and more about the impact autism can have on food choices, eating patterns, and the experience of mealtimes for both individuals and their families.
As dietitians, our role is not only to help ensure people receive the nutrients they need as individuals, but also to listen, understand, and work alongside them. Many autistic people and their families have experienced feeling misunderstood or unheard when it comes to food and eating.
We provide reassurance, compassion, and practical support alongside our clinical expertise in nutrition. It is this combination of evidence-based nutritional knowledge and person-centred care that makes dietitians unique healthcare professionals.
