ROMAN COURT UPDATE: Fenland District Council condemns Home Office decision to proceed with its plan for 26-bed asylum accommodation in Leverington.

The Home Office confirmed its decision to use the site in correspondence received by the Council this afternoon (2 November).

The Council believes the decision demonstrates a complete disregard for the serious risks the plans pose to public safety, community cohesion and civil unrest. It follows weeks of significant local opposition, public protests and a fire at Roman Court which remains the subject of an ongoing police investigation.

📣 Landlords! Under Renters' Rights Act legislation, landlords in England with assured or regulated tenancies must register themselves and their rental properties with Government.

Registration for the East of England opens on 15 January 2027.

More info at: www.gov.uk/guidance/register-your-rental-property-service-guidance-for-landlords

Are you a landlord? 🏠

From 15 December, if you’re a landlord of an assured or regulated tenancy in England, you must register yourself and each of your properties through the new service on GOV.UK by the deadline for your region. Letting agents can’t register on your behalf.

You’ll need to give details of your properties, like:

• the address 🔑
• the number of tenants and bedrooms 🛏️
• the amount of rent you're receiving for a property 💷
• gas and electricity safety certificates ⚡

You may be asked to provide energy performance certificates (EPCs) if your details can't be found on the EPC register.

Whether you're a landlord, letting agent, or third party, find out what you need to know about using the service on GOV.UK.

Don't ghost your pumpkin once spooky season is over! 🎃

Chop it up and pop it in your food waste caddy instead of throwing in your green bin and sending to landfill or energy from waste (food in landfill releases methane, which is more potent than carbon dioxide!).

Around 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins are thrown away in the UK each year. Let's not add to the pile! ♻️

Recycle your pumpkin in your caddy and help turn it into energy and fertiliser instead 🙌
