HEDGE TRIMMING
It's that time of year again! With the official bird nesting season over, now is a good time to get hedges trimmed. Just to remind everyone that it is landowners that are responsible for keeping hedges cut back where they form the boundary between their property and the highway or public footway. Many thanks to everyone that have already had their hedges cut or have already booked in to have it done.

COUNCILLOR VACANCY
Mary Tavy Parish Council now has 3 vacancies for councillors. We are obliged to wait 14 working days to give parishioners the opportunity to request an election (see our website at https://marytavyparishcouncil.gov.uk/news/notice-of-casual-vacancy-mary-tavy/ ). If after 14 days, no election has been called we can co-opt eligible people on to the council.
If you have ever thought about being a parish councillor, this is an excellent time to consider it further. The current council runs only until next May when there will be elections for a new council. So, being a councillor for just 7 months can be looked upon as a "taster session" with no commitment beyond May 2027 if being a councillor doesn't set your world alight!
With only 6 councillors at present we can't do all the things we'd like to do - such as environmental projects, developing closer working relationships with other groups in the parish, etc. We can get some of these things moving with more councillors.
If you want to find out more about being a councillor please contact the Clerk or any current councillor - contact details are on our website.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
For some time, the Parish Council has been pushing for a zebra crossing on the A386 near the Post Office & Store.

This is already a busy crossing point for people using the Store, accessing the Coronation Hall, playing field & playpark and for those children and parents who walk to our school. The crossing point is likely to become busier still with the Store’s planned expansion in retail space and the (eventual) development of the Down’s Garage site.

Thus far, requests from the Parish Council for a proper crossing have met with a resounding “no” from DCC Highways Department.
In order to continue to press the case, the Parish Council has decided to collect data from 7am until 7pm on Wednesday 2nd September. This will take the form of one or two people counting the number of pedestrians who cross and, if possible, talking to them about their destination, how often they cross at this point, any experiences of accidents or near misses, etc. We will do a second day of data collection once the school term has started again.

To help Parish Councillors, we are asking for volunteers to do a 30 minute or 1 hour slot sometime between 7am and 7pm on the 2nd September.

If you are interested and are able to give some time to help, please email Councillor Jane Dunn at [email protected].
