A new Department for Education campaign is calling on more people across the North East to consider fostering by showing people they may already have what it takes to become a foster carer.

By highlighting how everyday acts of care, from helping with homework to sharing a meal, and challenging misconceptions about who can foster, the campaign shows how these moments can help children feel safe, supported and settled, and make a lasting difference to a child's life.

Did you know you can foster if you have a family?

This Children of Foster Carers Week, we're thinking about how children not only become part of foster carers' lives but also have a lasting impact on fostering siblings.

Often, they form strong bonds, becoming confidants and a fun link between carers and the fostered children or young people. They can also help children settle into their home more quickly - and of course tell them where the good snacks are kept!

We’re proud to celebrate National Kinship Care Week. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

To mark the occasion, we've raised the Kinship Care flag outside the Civic Centre and, from Tuesday to Friday, the Civic Centre will be lit up in green in recognition of the vital role kinship carers play in our communities. 💚

Across Newcastle, hundreds of children are being cared for by grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and family friends who step in when they are needed most.

This week, we celebrate the incredible love, commitment and stability that kinship carers provide every day, helping children stay connected to their families, communities, schools and the city they call home.

❤️ Thank you to all kinship carers for the difference you make to children's lives.
