🚨 Message to Young People and Parents: Stay Away from Derelict Building Sites 🚨
➡️ We have recently received reports of young people entering a building site, causing damage, and behaving aggressively towards local residents who have challenged their behaviour in Bracebridge Heath
⚠️ Derelict buildings are not playgrounds. They can contain numerous dangers including unstable structures, exposed materials, open excavations, and other hazards that could result in serious injury or worse
📣 We would also like to remind everyone that:
🔹 Trespassing on a site with the intention of committing criminal damage or other offences may lead to criminal investigations and arrests.
🔹 Criminal damage is an offence, and those responsible will be identified and dealt with through the criminal justice system.
🔹 Verbal abuse, threats, or intimidating behaviour towards local residents is unacceptable and may constitute offences under Public Order legislation.
🔹 Where anti-social behaviour is identified, Neighbourhood Policing Teams can utilise a range of powers and interventions, including ASB Warning Letters. These can have wider consequences, including being considered as part of tenancy enforcement processes for those living in council-owned properties.
❗ Yesterday Sergeant Taylor, PCSO Lingard, & two colleagues from Lincoln Response attended Medland Drive & located a number of young people. A requirement was made of them to provide their name & address under the Police Reform Act 2002: Section 50 as we reasonably believed that they had been or were engaging in ASB - two young people were arrested for failing to do so (PACE 1984: CODE G arrest necessity). They were then de-arrested once this information was obtained. One young person was also searched under PACE 1984: Section 1 for article/s going equipped to cause criminal damage. This was negative.
We would encourage parents and guardians to have conversations with their children about the risks and consequences of entering abandoned sites and engaging in anti-social behaviour.
✅ Respect local residents.
✅ Respect private property.
✅ Make safe and responsible choices.
🚓 Anyone with information regarding anti-social behaviour and/or crime in the area is encouraged to report it to us via 101, online, or to the NKDC ASB Team. In an emergency always call 999
