EX CONDOR TOUR 26 | CHILEAN ANDES 🇨🇱

This summer, personnel from 22 Engineer Regiment deployed to the Chilean Andes for two weeks of high-altitude ski touring, backcountry skiing and ski mountaineering in some of the world’s most spectacular mountain terrain.

Operating from La Parva and Valle Nevado, the expedition tackled vast alpine terrain, steep mountain faces and technical couloirs, with descents of up to 35° from the ridges surrounding Cerro La Parva.

At altitude, unpredictable weather, strong winds and rapidly changing conditions presented constant challenges. Sappers were required to demonstrate technical proficiency, sound judgement and strong leadership while operating in a demanding and often unforgiving mountain environment.

Beyond the skiing, the expedition provided an opportunity to push personal limits, develop mountain skills and build confidence in planning and decision-making in challenging conditions.

Big mountains. Steep lines. High-altitude adventure. Ex CONDOR TOUR 26 was an opportunity to challenge our people, develop their capabilities and experience the Chilean Andes at their most spectacular. 🗻⛷️🇨🇱

Earlier this month, two teams from 22ER took on the challenge of TRAILWALKER, a demanding 100km ultramarathon across the South Downs, featuring over 2,700m of elevation gain.

An incredible test of physical endurance, mental resilience and teamwork, both teams demonstrated outstanding determination to cross the finish line in very respectable times, with incredible encouragement from their dedicated support crews throughout the challenge 🏃💪

Last week, 3 AES got their hands dirty at Bovington during their Plant and Terrier concentration training. 🚜

A valuable opportunity for crews to hone their skills in constructing ditches and vehicle pits, as well as breaching obstacles. Ensuring Terrier remains a vital capability for the Sappers to live, move and fight in the close battle. 💪

EX SWINTON DETONATE 💥💣

Last week, members of the Regiment took part in a demolition range as part of their Mobility and Counter-Mobility training.

The troops conducted a range of demolition tasks, including reserve demolitions of wooden and corrugated iron four-person battle trenches, trialled five different methods of explosively felling trees to form a block, practised explosive track cutting, and conducted explosive breaching of Dragon’s Teeth.

The training provided an opportunity to develop and maintain key combat engineering skills, while building confidence in the effective employment of demolitions in support of mobility and counter-mobility tasks.

CO’s competition 26-3 March and Shoot 🏃🔫

Last Thursday saw the third event in the COs competition series, with 6HQ&S Sqn putting the teams through their paces in a challenging March and Shoot.

Adapting to the heat, teams began with a demanding 4 km tactical march led by the PTIs before being released to race the final 2 km as a team to the range.

On arrival, they were tested on their marksmanship, teamwork, and communication as sections, engaging targets at distances ranging from 200–500 m. Casualty extractions and am******on resupplies between practices further tested their ability to operate under pressure.

A huge well done to everyone who took part and to 6 HQ & S Sqn for delivering a fantastic event. Congratulations to our winners, who took home the Jaques Luc Abley Challenge Cup!🏆
