Tonight The Mounts Fire Station is illuminated in purple in honour of India Chipchase 💜

We're proud to join Northampton in remembering India and supporting the incredible dedication and invaluable work of the Northampton Guardians, who were formed in her memory to keep people safe while enjoying Northampton's night-time economy.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service is asking people to follow advice and have fun safely during the Halloween and Bonfire Night period.

We would always recommend only attending organised firework and bonfire displays but urge members of the public that are planning on holding their own display to do so safely to avoid causing fires and injuries.

Darren Carson, Prevention Team Leader at Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “While the number of fires we attend during this period is reducing year by year, we still want to urge people to follow safety advice to keep themselves, their families and their homes safe.

“It is a fun time of year and we want people to enjoy fireworks and bonfires, but we really encourage members of the public to only go to an official display and avoid having them in back gardens.

“If you do have your own display or bonfire and it gets out of control, or you see any unattended fires, please always call 999 and ask for the Fire Service.”

Don't forget at 3pm today. Sunday 7th September, the UK Government will be testing Emergency Alerts on mobile phones across the UK.

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm.

Your mobile phone or tablet will vibrate and make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent. The alert message will confirm this is a test and that you do not need to take any further action.

Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency. Find out more at gov.uk/alerts.

You can opt out of the Emergency Alerts, including the national test, but you should keep them switched on for your own safety.

Emergency Alerts will warn you via your mobile or tablet if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby. Only the government and the emergency services are able to send them.

There are simple and effective steps we can all take to be more prepared for an emergency. Visit https://orlo.uk/tVolh for advice on how you can prepare.

Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from The Mounts Station in Northampton will be temporarily relocated to Mereway Fire Station while The Mounts is closed for essential work.

The station, which is the oldest in Northamptonshire, needs urgent electrical upgrades that cannot be carried out safely while the crews are operating from the building.

The work is due to start on the August 18, 2025, and is expected to take 4 weeks.

The number of fire crews covering Northampton will not be affected and The Mounts crews will be responding from Mereway.

While the work at The Mounts is underway, additional security measures will be in place at the building, including Neighbourhood Police patrols from officers based at neighbouring Campbell Square Police Station.
