If you are coming into hospital tomorrow (Wednesday 3 June), please be aware that our volunteers will not be available from 12:30pm.
This is due to a special event to mark volunteers’ week, where we will be thanking them for their incredible, selfless work to support colleagues, patients and visitors every day.
This will mean our volunteer services such as the indoor and outdoor buggy, our meet and greets, and our information desks will not be running from 12:30pm onwards.
Our wonderful volunteers will return to generously provide their time for free from 8:30am on Thursday 4 June.

University Hospitals of Northamptonshire is supporting recruitment to the EASi-KIDNEY clinical trial, an international research study investigating a potential new treatment for people living with chronic kidney disease.
The study aims to explore whether this treatment could help slow the progression of kidney disease and reduce the likelihood of patients needing dialysis in the future.
Recruitment opens today, and we are inviting eligible patients with chronic kidney disease who are not currently receiving dialysis and have not had a kidney transplant to find out more about taking part.
Research studies like EASi-KIDNEY are helping to shape the future of care and improve outcomes for patients living with long-term conditions.
If you're interested in this research, please contact the Research and Innovation Team in Area J in Northampton General Hospital, on extension 5941 or email [email protected].

We recently held our annual dementia awareness day. This is a regular event we hold through dementia awareness week, with the aim of helping those living with dementia and their loved ones with a way to find help and support.
Organised by Neena Q**m, Lead Dementia and Delirium Nurse based at NGH, this year we were hosted by Weston Favell library.
Neena said “It was a really successful day. Having worked with people with dementia I know that it can be overwhelming when people first have the diagnosis. This year we saw lots of people visit the stands and talk to the exhibitors”.
We’d like to thank the organisations who attended on the day and everyone who visited to find out more about dementia and of course lovely team at Weston Favell Library”.
The event also had an uplifting performance by the Growing Together choir who performed on the upper level of the mall. This was enjoyed by the shoppers and our attendees, and gave everyone an excuse to sing along with their medley of songs.
If you have further questions about dementia care at NGH please visit our website.

Bringing learning to life: students experience care in action at NGH
“Can our students see what life in a hospital is really like?”
That simple question brought seven students from Bosworth Independent School through the doors of Northampton General Hospital and into the heart of what we do every day.
From their first steps along Hospital Street, they experienced the rhythm of NGH - volunteers warmly welcoming patients, colleagues moving with purpose, and the quiet teamwork that keeps everything running safe and smoothly.
This wasn’t just a visit. The students asked thoughtful questions, explored different areas of the hospital, and connected with colleagues across a range of roles. They learned about our history, met the people behind the care, and saw first-hand how compassion, professionalism and teamwork shape every patient journey.
As their Head of Science, Stephen Webster, described it: “Seeing medicine in action brings learning to life.”
For us, it was something more too. It was an opportunity to open our doors, inspire the next generation, and reflect on the impact of the work our colleagues do every day.
A huge thank you to Bosworth Independent School and the students who made the day so memorable.
Together, we can inspire future careers and strengthen the connection between our hospitals and our communities.
