Lettings firm presented with £28,000 fine over HMO fire safety breaches 13/01/2025

A Huge fine of £28,000 was issued to an HMO management company in Liverpool after many fire safety breaches.

The 4 main reasons for the fine:

1. Blocked Fire Escape Route
A large shipping container obstructed a fire escape route, preventing safe evacuation in case of an emergency.

2. Padlocked Back Gate
An essential exit point was sealed off with a padlock, rendering it inaccessible during an emergency.

3. Defective Fire Doors
Nine fire doors were found to be in disrepair, compromising their ability to contain fires effectively.

4. Holes and Gaps in Structure
Numerous holes and gaps were discovered in the floors and walls of several rooms, further undermining the property’s fire safety.

These violations represent serious lapses in compliance with the Management of House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) Regulations 2006, endangering the safety and well-being of tenants.
