Weaverham Russet Apple – Update

Last August, I asked for help from the community to identify whether anyone had Weaverham Russet apple trees in their gardens, so that we could work together to preserve this unique piece of our local heritage for future generations.

I would like to thank everyone who got in touch and kindly offered to help. Unfortunately, I have been unable to arrange the genetic testing needed to confirm whether we still have genuine Weaverham Russet apple trees growing in the village.

I have now been advised that DNA testing is unlikely to be available until next year, so sadly, we will have to wait a little longer before we can establish whether the original Weaverham Russet is still with us.

The Parish Council is keen to protect our local heritage and raise awareness of the Weaverham Russet Apple, and we hope to do more to celebrate this special part of Weaverham's history.

To celebrate and promote apples, the Parish Council is looking at holding a c***r event on Lake House Field in May 2027.

More details will follow once plans are confirmed.

Please like and share the Weaverham Parish Council page to keep up to date with this event and other community activities.

Planning Update – Planning application: 25/02992/OUT
Location: Beech Farm, 144 Wallerscote Road, Weaverham, CW8 3LZ

I have been asked a number of questions regarding the planning application for Beech Farm, 144 Wallerscote Road, Weaverham.

The application is for up to 72 dwellings, with access included and other matters reserved. It also includes the retention of the existing farmhouse and adjacent barn, demolition of existing barns, a new vehicular access and associated works.

The Parish Council has previously objected to this planning application.

There have recently been further amendments and additional documents submitted as part of the application. Residents may not be aware of these changes, so I wanted to bring three of the recently submitted documents to your attention.

📄 The three additional documents are now available to view on the Cheshire West and Chester Council planning portal.

The Parish Council has considered and submitted OBJECTIONS to all three of these additional documents.

We will continue to monitor the application and provide updates to residents as further information becomes available.

I would encourage residents who have an interest in the application to review the latest documents. The Parish Council's responses will be available on the planning portal once uploaded by CWaC.

This is for information any objections need to be direct to CWaC planning.
