A project aimed at improving the response to spiking reports by increasing victims' accessibility to testing kits has been extended to cover the World Cup football tournament.

We’re one of three forces taking part in a pilot project, named Project Alliance, which is being led by the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls and Public Protection (NCVPP).

We already know spiking is underreported to us, but we still want victims to come forward for testing, even if they don’t want a criminal justice outcome.

As part of this initiative, spiking victims can now access multi-drug urine testing kits which are available from specific local hospitals and health centres, not just from the police, giving them more options for support.

The test will detect and identify known substances people may have been spiked with.

There is also information provided on how to use these testing kits which will be available during the pilot which was initially launched in March and has since been extended until 31 July 2026.

So far, we've received 42 reports of spiking since the pilot project was launched.

DCI Chris Berryman, our spiking lead, said: “The pilot has gone well from a police perspective. We want to make testing more accessible and remove some of the stigma of reporting crime.

"We want victims to feel they are able to report incidents to us as well as making them more aware of spiking and the support available to them.

“If you believe you have been spiked, please come forward and report it to us.

"The sooner it is reported, the better the chance we have of identifying offenders and stopping them from harming others.

“You will be listened to and taken seriously. We’re here to support you and help you get the answers you need.”

Potential spiking victims can report an incident or find out more information by calling us on 101 or reporting online here: https://orlo.uk/IJgYl

We have now issued 21 young people with dispersal notices in response to repeated antisocial behaviour in the Bestwood area.

Our officers have received multiple reports of groups gathering and causing issues around Southglade Park in the last week or so.

Reports of fighting, setting small fires, abusing shop staff, throwing stones, riding bikes in front of moving vehicles and intimidating behaviour have all been made since the Bank Holiday weekend.

When the ASB then continued throughout last week, a decision was made to issue multiple dispersal orders that gave us additional powers to move people on from the area.

They also enabled our officers to take the details of anyone who breached the order and – in the case of juveniles – accompany them home to their parents, with further action then taken by the council and partner agencies.

These powers have been enforced by officers in the City North, who have deployed a mixture of visible and plain clothed officers, as well as aerial support from our drone team to both deter offending and identify offenders.

The names and addresses of 34 juveniles – the vast majority of whom come from the local area – have subsequently been identified by us.

Of these, 21 received dispersal notices, while 23 parents or guardians received ASB warning letters, advising what the individual had done, reminding them that the child was their responsibility, and signposting them to available support.

Nottingham City Council Housing Services have also been notified about which of their tenants have received letters, so they will be arranging visits with them to discuss their tenancies in the coming weeks.

Sergeant Katie Taylor said: "First things first, the continuous stream of antisocial behaviour reported around Southglade Park over the last week or so has been totally unacceptable.

"Tackling ASB has been a City North policing priority for some time now, for the sole reason that we appreciate how much these unpleasant offences impact the local community and affect their quality of life.

"Bearing this in mind, our teams have issued multiple dispersal orders in recent days – a decision we never take lightly but one that on this occasion has led to some positive results.

"Thirty-four young people have now had their names and addresses taken, 21 have been issued with dispersal orders and 23 have had ASB warning letter delivered to their homes.

"We've also been working closely with the ASB team in city council housing and they will be visiting homes to potentially issue tenancy warnings – a tactic we hope will help nip this behaviour in the bud."

📄 A survey has been launched to find out which areas matter most to the public when it comes to improving safety in the city centre.

Operation Reclaim is a collaborative multi-agency project to solve the biggest problems affecting Nottingham City Centre including youth ASB, drug dealing, aggressive begging, rough sleeping, weapon-carrying, illegal e-bikes and retail crime.

🏙️ Whether you live in the city centre or just visiting to work or meet up with friends, we want to hear from you to make sure we are putting our resources into the areas causing you the biggest concerns.

⏰ The survey only takes a few minutes to fill out, but must be completed by 19 June.

A dispersal order has been extended in Bestwood and Top Valley following continued ASB in the area.

We have received numerous reports of large groups of young people causing issues in a Bestwood park and to nearby shops.

Reports of fighting, setting small fires, abusing shop staff, throwing stones, riding bikes in front of moving vehicles and intimidating behaviour have all been made over the last few days.

The antisocial behaviour (ASB) in and around Southglade Park started during the Bank Holiday weekend, with that we issued a dispersal order on Tuesday (26 May) afternoon when it continued.

This Section 35 order – which gives us additional powers to move people away from an area and take further action if they return – covers large parts of Bestwood and Top Valley and has now been extended until 7am on Saturday (30 May).

That's after groups of young people gathered on the park again yesterday (27 May), with reports made to City North officers including people fighting, lighting fires, acting in an intimidating fashion, throwing objects and stopping people entering the library.

Using the additional powers provided by the order, our officers managed to successfully disperse the groups, while issuing Section 35 orders to four juveniles, who were duly returned to their homes by us.

Anyone who breaches this order will be dispersed from the area, have their details taken and risk further action being taken with the council and partner agencies, while – where children are involved – they'll be accompanied home by officers and parents will be notified.

Sergeant Rose Barton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Our neighbourhood policing team has received a stream of separate reports of antisocial behaviour in and around Southglade Park in recent days.

"While we're aware the mixture of the warm weather, Bank Holiday weekend and half term will, quite rightly, lead to young people wanting to hang out with their friends, there is a point where a line is crossed.

"That has now taken place, with the numerous reports of antisocial behaviour severely impacting on the local community, which has prompted us to make the decision to issue this dispersal order and then extend it for longer.

"The behaviour that has been reported to us is not just harmless fun but is instead completely unacceptable and has caused understandable distress locally and needs to stop.

"We will take action should people continue to behave in this manner, while our hope is that the issuing and extending of this dispersal order – a decision we never take lightly – will help put a stop to this antisocial behaviour."

Officers are dealing with ongoing antisocial behaviour at Southglade Park and nearby shops, including Premier Stores, and have issued a dispersal order.

If your child is out in the area please collect them immediately.

Reports include:
• Stepping or riding in front of moving vehicles
• Littering, shouting and swearing
• Fighting
• Setting fires in bushes, putting people at serious risk
• Abuse towards shop staff and shop theft offences
This behaviour is dangerous, criminal, and will not be tolerated.
A Section 35 dispersal order is in place until 4:47pm on Thursday 28 May 2026.
If you are involved:
• You will be dispersed from the area
• Your details will be taken
• Parents/guardians will be contacted
• Further action may be taken with the council and partner agencies
Setting fires and targeting local businesses are serious offences. We will take robust enforcement action where needed.
Parents: Know where your children are—police will contact you if they are involved.
Officers will be in the area and will enforce this order.
Antisocial and criminal behaviour will have consequences.

We’re currently seeing an increase in calls about general noise, such as loud music, garden gatherings, or neighbour disturbances. While we understand these situations can be frustrating, many noise concerns are not police matters and are usually best dealt with by your local council.

Your local council’s environmental health team has the powers to assess and take action where needed.

There are some circumstances where police involvement may be necessary, such as if noise is linked to anti-social behaviour in a public place, or if there is evidence of crime or an immediate risk to safety.

By contacting the right service first, you can help ensure your issue is resolved more quickly and keep the 101 and 999 lines free for those who need them most.

📞 Always call 999 in an emergency, where there is a threat to life or crime in progress.
