Last Monday evening members welcomed John Wheatley as our guest speaker. John is endeavouring to create a Film Festival in Erewash. His idea is for groups of film makers to produce a short film of no more than 15 minutes which will be shown on a large screen in the High St of Long Eaton. It is hoped that the public will be encouraged to visit the town to view the films and afterwards use the cafes and bars which will bring revenue to these businesses.
To encourage participants a prize of £2,500 will be on offer to the winner, All films will be available on You Tube. Schools and local film societies will all be invited to take part. Long term it is planned to hold Comedy Festivals in the town. Those producing films will be carrying out community service in Erewash as payback. Obviously this project will require funding and John is asking local businesses and other organisations for contributions. A total of £7500 is envisaged to get the project started. President Keith Randall thanked John on behalf of the members and wished him well with this new idea to promote Long Eaton GM

We have had a very busy couple of months with our Interactors, here are just some of our recent projects. We held our Rotary Young Chef Competition at the Long Eaton School, there were eight contestants and all of the dishes cooked tasted absolutely delicious, many congratulations to the winner Ren. Last March 2025, the Club's Sponsored Swim was for a borehole in Uganda which raised £2,853. We are delighted to say that this project is now completed. This years' sponsored swim was in aid of the Canaan Trust, thanks to everyone for their support, special thanks to Robert Ellis Estate Agents for hiring the pool. Our Brackenfield Interact Club took part in a very active woodturning morning. They produced some very impressive bespoke items!

Gone to the Dogs
22 Members and guests gathered at the Nottingham Greyhound Stadium on Friday, Feb 27th, to enjoy an evening of dog racing. The weather was awful, but the dogs did not mind. A three-course meal was enjoyed while betting on the Tote. The venue was extremely busy, but there was ample staff on hand to provide drinks and take your bets!
A good time was had by all, and hopefully not all the money went to the Bookmaker. Thanks must go to Rtn David Kent who organised the evening. GM

David Kent once again organised our three store collections this year, at ASDA, Tesco and Trowell Garden Centre. Well done and thanks to him and all the helpers who assisted.
Thanks to the generosity of the Christmas shopping public almost £1,000 was raised between the three. Gift Aid of 25% can also be claimed in due course. Thanks too to the three stores who were so welcoming to us and our fundraising efforts.
All monies raised from Long Eaton shoppers will be distributed to local charities and organisations. A list of our giving last year can be found on our website. RA

This annual Disbursements evenings are perhaps the most important - and rewarding - of our Rotary year, the giving away of all the money so many had worked so hard to raise. Those chosen to receive a donation were invited to attend the occasion at The Holiday Inn Risley.
Sergeant at Arms Nigel Kirk welcomed everyone on arrival. President Keith Randell gave a speech of welcome to everyone and invited those there to receive a disbursement to join him. Vice president Kewal Singh Athwal gave out the name of each organisation and the recipient, on receiving a cheque, provided a brief outline of what the money would be used for. Finding out how Rotary is helping and how important donations are our to keep these clubs afloat was interesting to all and rewarding to our members.
President Keith thanked all those who had helped collecting donations, with a special thank you to Push Bike Paul for what he contributes to TreeTops and to our Rotary charity fund.
Rtn Roger Alton was on hand to take photographs. Secretary Rtn Pete Wearn did an excellent job organising the evening assisted by PP David Kent. To round off the night, a buffet was provided for everyone to enjoy. An excellent meeting demonstrating what being a Rotarian is all about. GM
For those who could not make the live evening held last night a Zoom alternative was available and ten recipients accepted this alternative. Organised by Secretary Pete Wearn and hosted by vice president Kewal Singh Athwal each recipient explained their organisation's purpose and their plans for our donation. Another very moving evening.
