🚊🚌 Tram and bus passengers will see the reassuring presence of high-visibility officers travelling alongside them as part of a £200,000 public transport safety scheme.
🔒Operation SafeTravel officers will become a familiar sight on Nottinghamshire’s public transport network as they hop on and off buses and trams to offer safeguarding and a friendly face of support, as well as acting as extra eyes and ears in support of police investigations.
The scheme delivers Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden’s ambition to enhance safety on public transport across Nottinghamshire whilst also making it more difficult for criminals to operate in the city centre.
Funding for the project comes from East Midlands Combined County Authority, led by Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, who is responsible for transport infrastructure across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

A huge thank you to all the incredible volunteers who joined us at Nottinghamshire Police Headquarters last night for our joint OPCC and Nottinghamshire Police Volunteer Appreciation Event.👏
Hosted by PCC Gary Godden and Deputy PCC Angela Kandola, the evening celebrated the dedication, commitment and community spirit of volunteers who give up their time to support policing and community safety across Nottinghamshire.
From Independent Custody Visitors and scrutiny panel members to VRP Ambassadors, police support volunteers and many others, these individuals play a vital role in helping keep policing transparent, accountable and connected to the communities it serves.
Volunteers make a real difference every day, and it was fantastic to have the opportunity to recognise and thank them for their outstanding contribution during Volunteers’ Week.

Plans for a new Police Station on Worksop’s high street could soon be a reality.
It follows long-running discussions between Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Gary Godden, Nottinghamshire Police and Bassetlaw District Council to secure a front counter service in the heart of the community and enhance the town's visible policing presence.
Bassetlaw District Council’s Cabinet agreed in principle this week to transfer ownership of the town centre property at 73 Bridge Street to the PCC, who is responsible for Nottinghamshire Police's estate.
The decision will now be considered by the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee as part of a confidential report on Tuesday 16 June.
Gary Godden, Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire, said: “I'm delighted that we have moved a step closer to securing a dedicated police station in such a prominent town centre location in Worksop.
"Following continued engagement with the community since I came into the role, I have had a long-held ambition to enhance the police's presence and accessibility in the Bassetlaw district, and this marks a major step toward making this a reality.
"I'd like to thank Bassetlaw MP Jo White and Bassetlaw District Council for working closely with me on this and helping me ensure we meet the needs of local people so we can strengthen trust, confidence and partnership working with the community."
This proposal is designed to enhance the Police provision across Bassetlaw and add to the facilities that are already in place in Harworth and Bircotes and Retford.
The decision was welcomed by the Leader of Bassetlaw District Council, Cllr Julie Leigh, who said: “We have been working with the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner as well as Bassetlaw-based Officers for some months now to enable the Police to pursue a new base that enhances the way they provide policing in our district and town.
“Subject to the decision of our Overview and Scrutiny Committee, I’m pleased that further discussions will be able to take place so that our shared ambition of enhanced policing can be realised while also contributing to wider ambitions for our town centre and improving safety.”
Should the decision be endorsed, Nottinghamshire Police will move from their current base in Queen’s Buildings and have full responsibility for the facilities that are provided at the new station.
Jo White MP, Member of Parliament for Bassetlaw, said: “I have been fighting for a more visible police presence in Worksop town centre because our town centres must be safe for shoppers, visitors and local businesses.
“I am delighted that the Police and Crime Commissioner has listened, and is working with Bassetlaw District Council to open a new police station on Bridge Street. This is a welcome addition to the police presence in Bassetlaw.”
"This next step in securing a new home for the Worksop Police Station reflects our commitment to investing in the future of local policing.
Chief Inspector Clive Collings, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Securing a dedicated base for our officers will strengthen our presence in Worksop town centre and ensure we are even more visible, as well as making the station more accessible for the neighbourhoods we serve.
"This move marks an important milestone in supporting local neighbourhood policing and underlines our ongoing commitment to keeping Worksop – and our wider Bassetlaw communities – safe."
Number 73 Bridge Street is currently used as a base for the Council’s Market provision in addition to public toilets.
Alternative locations to accommodate these facilities are also being explored alongside this report.

Another example of the difference Immediate Justice can make in our communities. 👇
The Immediate Justice team recently carried out a clean-up operation in Hyson Green, helping clear large amounts of litter and improve the local environment for residents.
Through the scheme, offenders who commit antisocial behaviour and low-level offences are made to give something back to the communities they’ve impacted through visible reparation work.
Now, local people can help decide where this work happens next.
If there’s an area near you affected by litter, graffiti, fly-tipping or environmental damage, you can report it through the new Immediate Justice website for the team to review.
