Tree Damage Update Wed 10th 🌳

Hello, we've had a contractor on site today and the path under the damaged tree is fully clear and safe to use. Additional survey work will be progressed over the next couple of weeks relating to the tree. Thank you for reporting the issue to us.

🌳 Tree Damage Update

We’ve been made aware of a damaged tree on one of the paths in Gedling House Woods.

We’re in contact with our contractor to arrange for the tree to be assessed and dealt with safely. At present, the tree appears stable and there is no immediate need to close the path, but we would encourage visitors to take extra care in the area, particularly during windy conditions.

We’ll provide a further update if the situation changes.

Thank you to everyone who has reported it to us.

Friends of Gedling House Woods members are invited to join us for our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 30th June at 7:00pm.

The AGM is an opportunity to hear about the work that has taken place over the last year, learn more about our plans for the future, and help shape the direction of the Friends group.

We’re also delighted to welcome Dr Adam Bates from Nottingham Trent University, who will be giving a talk on:

Protecting Gedling House Woods and Meadows: Building on FGHW’s work to safeguard and promote the site.

If you’d like to attend, please let us know by emailing [email protected] so we can plan seating and refreshments.

We hope to see you there. 🌿

MEADOWS ARE NOW OPEN 💚

A quick heads-up that the meadows will be temporarily closed from 8am on Monday 1st June while essential meadow management work takes place. 🌿

Contractors will be carrying out targeted w**d spot spraying in selected areas to help protect the long-term health and diversity of the wildflower meadows.

The work is carefully controlled, uses approved products, and forms part of the wider conservation management of the reserves.

The meadows will remain closed throughout Monday and overnight following the spraying, with reopening expected on the morning of Tuesday 2nd June.

Thanks, as always, for your patience and support while we carry out this important work.

This weekend looks like it’s going to be a beautiful one in the woods and meadows 🌿☀️

The wildflowers are out, the paths are looking lovely, and it’s the perfect time for a wander, a quiet coffee on a bench, or just a bit of fresh air.

We’re also now at 85 members, which means we’re just 15 away from reaching our goal of 100 supporters.

If you’ve been thinking about joining, you really could make our weekend by helping us get over the line. Every membership helps us care for the woods and meadows, support volunteering, and keep improving these special spaces for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you, as always, for all the support, encouragement, kind comments and shared love for this place. It genuinely means a lot to all of us. 💚

Some exciting conversations have been taking place recently about the future ecological importance of Gedling House Woods and Meadows, including biodiversity recording and the possibility of Ancient Woodland status for parts of the site.

We’ll be exploring those ideas further at this year’s FGHW AGM with a guest talk from Dr Adam Bates of Nottingham Trent University before the AGM business meeting itself.

Whether you’re a long-standing member, regular volunteer or simply interested in the future of the woods and meadows, we’d love to see you there 🌿

A lovely aerial view of the woods and meadows shared by Nathan Clarkson Droneography 🌿

The wild garlic is looking particularly good at the moment and it’s great to see the reserves from a completely different perspective.

Thank you as well for the kind words about the volunteers who help care for Gedling House Woods and Meadows throughout the year - we know they’ll be really appreciated.

If you’ve visited recently, have you spotted the wild garlic in bloom yet?
