🏆CELEBRATING SUCCESS | NATIONAL CADETS WEEK🏆

As we reach the end of the first National Cadet Week, it’s the perfect opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our cadets over the past year – and for 1359 (Beeston) Squadron, there have been plenty to celebrate!

🏆 April – Wing Field Day
We retained the overall Wing Field Day title for the third consecutive competition! Our cadets competed across a range of events covering the cadet syllabus, including Drill, Banner Drill, First Aid, Aviation, Space and Leadership. An outstanding team effort and a fantastic achievement for the squadron!

🥇 May – Wing Athletics
Our success continued at Wing Athletics, where we secured first place overall, with both our senior boys’ and senior girls’ teams taking first place in their respective categories. A brilliant result showcasing the determination and teamwork of our cadets.

🏃 October – Wing Cross Country
Just last week, our cadets took to the course at Wing Cross Country, securing second place overall. We also celebrated first-place finishes for our Mid Boys and Senior Girls teams in their respective age groups.

A special congratulations to Cadet Jones, who took first place in his individual age group! 👏

These achievements reflect the hard work, commitment and team spirit of our cadets, alongside the dedication of the staff and volunteers who support them.

💙 We’re incredibly proud of what our cadets have achieved – and we can’t wait to see what comes next!

❤️ CADETS SAVE LIVES | NATIONAL CADETS WEEK ❤️

Today, we’re highlighting one of the most valuable things our cadets gain through their time at 1359 (Beeston) Squadron RAF Air Cadets – the knowledge, skills and confidence to step forward when someone needs help.
Our cadets receive practical training in First Aid, CPR and emergency response, learning how to assess a situation, keep themselves and others safe, raise the alarm and provide appropriate assistance.
But it’s not just about passing a course or gaining a qualification.
It’s about having the confidence to put those skills into practice when it really matters.

🚑 Cpl James-Davis recently put their training into action:

“At school, I was able to support a girl who was prone to seizures when she experienced one. Having completed first aid training, I knew to stay calm, help keep my friend safe and monitor her throughout. I timed the seizure and kept track of how many seconds it lasted, while making sure staff were alerted and preventing other students from getting too close or interfering. I tried to keep the situation calm and respectful for her. This experience showed me how valuable first aid training can be and gave me confidence in supporting someone during a difficult moment.”

This is exactly why we teach these skills.
Emergencies don’t always happen in a controlled training environment. They can happen at home, at school, while out with friends or during everyday life. When they do, having the knowledge to recognise what is happening and the confidence to step forward can make a real difference.

Our cadets aren’t expected to be superheroes. Instead, we give them the training and confidence to know what they can do, when they can help and when to get further assistance.

The skills they learn with us aren’t just for their time as a cadet – they are skills for life.

💙 VOLUNTEERS’ DAY | NATIONAL CADETS WEEK 💙
Today, as part of National Cadets Week, we want to shine a spotlight on the people behind the scenes at 1359 (Beeston) Squadron RAF Air Cadets – our incredible team of adult volunteers. ✈️

Every week, our volunteers give their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to make the opportunities our cadets experience possible. From running parade nights and training sessions, to organising camps, flying, shooting, adventurous training, competitions and countless other activities – there is a huge amount of work that happens behind the scenes.

But being a volunteer isn’t just about delivering activities. It’s about supporting, encouraging and challenging our cadets to be the best version of themselves. Watching a cadet develop from their first night on squadron into a confident young person and leader is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Our staff give up their evenings, weekends and holidays because they believe in what the Air Cadets can offer young people – and because they want to make a difference.
👏 To every volunteer, past and present, who has given their time to 1359 Beeston Squadron – thank you! 👏

⭐️ To celebrate national cadets week, today we are highlighting CADETS IN THE COMMUNITY ⭐️

Cadets often spend time in the local community, either representing the Royal Air Force Air Cadets or volunteering in their own time.

This year our cadets hosted a stand at the Beeston Summer Fete, demonstrating core air cadet activities to the general public, talking about what the organisation is about, taking part in the parade and demonstrating drill in a continuity drill routien. FS Saville says: “This was a really interesting experience where I was able to engage with the public and teach some basic first aid skills. It was fun to show the community the kind of activities we do in cadets and represent the squadron in a way the public rarely gets to see.”

Not only that but our cadets take part in major parades throughout the year including, Battle of Britain Parade, Albert Ball Parade and Remembrance Parade. We asked some of our NCOs what taking part in parades means to them

Cpl Thomas: “I have taken part in several public parades including remembrance and Battle of Britain memorial. I find this an important part of being in the air cadets as it allows me to represent both the corps and the RAF in a positive light. It also creates an opportunity to show respect for those who fought for freedom in the past and those who continue to serve our country today.”

FS Saville: “Public parades are a chance for us to represent the squadron and showcase who we are. It’s also a chance for us to come together to remember those who have fallen fighting for our country over the years and to share this moment with the public. It’s a great chance for the community to come together and show our respect for those before us as a collective.”

Cpl Sanderson: “I’ve taken part in some public parades myself at remembrance and to commemorate RAF service men and women and it fills me with a sense of pride to wear the uniform and remember those who fought for us and our country and makes me carry myself with pride at these events.”

🌟 Promotion at 1359 Beeston Squadron 🌟

It is with great pleasure and pride that we share our very own FS Hayball has passed his board and is now officially Cadet Warrant Officer Hayball!!

Cadet Warrant Officer is the highest rank that a cadet can aspire to achieve and only a small percentage of those that go through the activity get the privilege of adorning. This shows how much hard work CWO Hayball has put in during his time in the organisation, whether that’s in Flying, teaching, leading and inspiring, something I have no doubt he will continue to do in his new role also!!

Congratulations CWO Hayball! We are all immensely proud of you and this achievement!
