“We are of the undeniable belief that Kirsty saved our baby’s life.”

Those were the words of two parents who joined us to celebrate our wonderful colleague Kirsty Cook, who became our latest DAISY Award honouree at a surprise presentation earlier today.

Kirsty wasn’t only nominated for her incredibly quick actions in a particularly rare emergency, but her warm and caring personality which “gave us great confidence in those providing our care” was highlighted throughout the heartwarming nomination.

The DAISY Award is an international recognition programme that honours extraordinary nurses and midwives who go above and beyond to provide exceptional care and compassion to patients and their families.

If you know someone like Kirsty who has made a difference to you or your loved one, you can nominate them for an award on our website 👇

When you are unwell, being in hospital can make you more vulnerable to infections.

We do everything we can to prevent and control the spread of infection and keep our patients safe. However, hospitals bring together people who are unwell and, as a result, there can be a greater risk of being exposed to infections than there is at home. With high numbers of Flu and COVID-19 predicted in our communities and hospitals in the coming weeks, the risk of exposure is particularly important to consider at this time.

If you are in hospital, please help us reduce the spread of infection by:
• Following any infection prevention and control advice from our staff
• Washing your hands regularly with soap and water, or using hand sanitiser
• Wearing a mask when advised by our teams when you enter a clinical area
• Avoiding visiting if you have a cough, cold, flu-like symptoms, temperature or diarrhoea or vomiting.

Walk and talk support group for people affected by cancer

The weekly walks allow patients with cancer or recovering from their illness to join specialist nurses and fellow patients to share their progress, experiences or to just talk in a relaxed setting with others.

Anyone interested in joining our group is welcome to just attend or to contact Mick Gilbert by telephone/text on 07584676145.

It’s really relaxed with no set agenda, if you don’t feel able to do the walk you are welcome to join the group for coffee.

The walks start outside the Nuneaton Museum coffee shop in Riversley Park.

It’s Wear Red Day and together we stand against racism, bullying, harassment, and discrimination.

Today we are sharing a powerful story from one of our colleagues who experienced racial abuse at work and how this impacted her. We encourage you to take 1 minute of your day to listen.

Discriminatory, abusive, violent or sexually inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable under any circumstances and will be reported to the police. When discrimination takes place in our hospital it does not just affect one person, it affects team morale, trust and wellbeing. Action will be taken against anyone who commits these acts against our staff.

We’re here to help, not to be hurt.

We’re asking our patients, visitors and local community to stand together with us and say ‘No Excuse for Abuse'.
